At the Feet of The Mother

The Terrible Angel and the Guardian Power, pp. 481-482

Opening Remarks
The world is sometimes overtaken by these darker powers and evil seems to be on a spree of victory. Yet there is a power that guards the world’s fate and ours. It is this divine Power that shall have the final victory.

The huge uprising
In house and house the huge uprising grows:
Hell’s companies are loosed to do their work,
Into the earth-ways they break out from all doors,
Invade with blood-lust and the will to slay
And fill with horror and carnage God’s fair world.

In bodies and nations the forces of evil gain ascendance during certain critical moments of history. At such times, darkness and death and its diabolic powers are let loose upon earth through every door. They invade with lust for blood and to slay and fill God’s fair world with horror and carnage.

Creation rocks and trembles
Death and his hunters stalk a victim earth;
The terrible Angel smites at every door:
An awful laughter mocks at the world’s pain
And massacre and torture grin at Heaven:
All is the prey of the destroying force;
Creation rocks and tremble top and base.

The heavy footfall of the Asura of Death stalks the earth with its hunters smiting at every door. An awful laughter of the Titan mocks at the world’s pain. Massacre and torture grin at Heaven. All becomes the prey of the destroying force of Evil and Death. During such moments creation rocks and trembles from top to base.

Evil Nature
This evil Nature housed in human hearts,
A foreign inhabitant, a dangerous guest:
The soul that harbours it it can dislodge,
Expel the householder, possess the house.

This evil Nature housed in man’s heart, though a foreign inhabitant and a dangerous guest, can dislodge the soul, even expel it and possess the human body and mind meant to become a house of God.

Opposite potency
An opposite potency contradicting God,
A momentary Evil’s almightiness
Has straddled the straight path of Nature’s acts.

This evil force opposes God’s plan and seems to be almighty for a moment. It has straddled the straight path of Nature.

Imitates God
It imitates the Godhead it denies,

This falsehood not only opposes God but also imitates Him.

Assumes his face
Puts on his figure and assumes his face.

This evil power puts on the figure of the Divine and assumes his face.

A Manichean creator
A Manichean creator and destroyer,
This can abolish man, annul his world.

A Manichean philosophy of good and evil can abolish man and annul his world.

Guardian power
But there is a guardian power, there are Hands that save,
Calm eyes divine regard the human scene.

However there is a guardian power, the saving Hands of Grace. Calm eyes divine watch over us.

Closing Remarks
Savitri looks at human life and the dangers that lurk within it that can destroy the human world.
