The Subconscient Past, pp. 483-484

Opening Remarks
Our dead past continues to live in our subconscient parts and comes up again and again in our present and future.

Abolished vainly
Abolished vainly in the walks of Time
Our past lives still in our unconscious selves
And by the weight of its hidden influences
Is shaped our future’s self-discovery.

Though apparently gone, our past yet continues to live within us in our unconscious parts. It weighs upon our future walk and shapes it in a certain way helping us in our self-discovery.

Inevitable chain
Thus all is an inevitable chain
And yet a series seems of accidents.

The past, present and the future is an inevitable chain emerging in our life as events and circumstance, though it all seems a series of accidents.

Repeat the old acts
The unremembering hours repeat the old acts,
Our dead past round our future’s ankles clings
And drags back the new nature’s glorious stride,
Or from its buried corpse old ghosts arise,
Old thoughts, old longings, dead passions live again,
Recur in sleep or move the waking man
To words that force the barrier of the lips,
To deeds that suddenly start and o’erleap
His head of reason and his guardian will.

The hours we have forgotten spring up as acts and our dead past drags us as we move towards the future, like a chain round our ankles. It drags us back as our new nature emerges in its glorious stride. Our bygone thoughts, old longings, dead passions return and recur in our sleep or move us in our waking state forcing words and speech that result in unconscious deeds that overleap our reason and will.

Old self lurks
An old self lurks in the new self we are;
Hardly we escape from what we once had been:
In the dim gleam of habit’s passages,
In the subconscient’s darkling corridors
All things are carried by the porter nerves
And nothing checked by subterranean mind,
Unstudied by the guardians of the doors
And passed by a blind instinctive memory,
The old gang dismissed, old cancelled passports serve.

Our old self lurks in our new self as we move forward. We can hardly escape from our past. Through the force of habit in the dark subconscient corridors, all things are transmitted through the nerves unconsciously without any check from the mind and the vigil of discernment. Instinctively, things pass through a blind memory, and continue to remain active even when the deed is left behind in the past.

Phantom immortality
Nothing is wholly dead that once had lived;
In dim tunnels of the world’s being and in ours
The old rejected nature still survives;
The corpses of its slain thoughts raise their heads
And visit mind’s nocturnal walks in sleep,
Its stifled impulses breathe and move and rise;
All keeps a phantom immortality.

Nothing really dies that has ever lived once. It continues in the dim dark tunnels of the world and our own. The old nature that has been rejected survives, the dead thoughts raise their heads and visit our mind at night and in sleep. The impulses once stifled move and rise and live once again as a phantom that never dies.

Dead selves
Irresistible are Nature’s sequences:
The seeds of sins renounced sprout from hid soil;
The evil cast from our hearts once more we face;
Our dead selves come to slay our living soul.

Nature’s sequences are irresistible. The seeds of sin we have cast out sprout from the subconscient ground of nature. The evil we have thrown out from our hearts have to be faced once more. Our dead past returns to slay our soul.

A portion of us
A portion of us lives in present Time,
A secret mass in dim inconscience gropes;
Out of the inconscient and subliminal
Arisen, we live in mind’s uncertain light
And strive to know and master a dubious world
Whose purpose and meaning are hidden from our sight.

Only a small portion of our being lives in the present moment. A whole mass of our being gropes in the darkness of inconscience. Risen out of the inconscient and the subliminal we live in the uncertain light of the mind. The mind in its ignorance strives to know and master a dubious world whose purpose and meaning are hidden from our sight.

Our being’s totality
Above us dwells a superconscient God
Hidden in the mystery of his own light:
Around us is a vast of ignorance
Lit by the uncertain ray of human mind,
Below us sleeps the Inconscient dark and mute.

Above us is the Superconscience hidden within its own Light. Around us is a vast cosmic Ignorance lit by the uncertain light of the mind. Below us sleeps the dark and mute Inconscience.

Closing Remarks
The subconscient is our inheritance from the past that keeps repeating itself in one form or another.

Yoga means union with the Divine. In practice it implies coming in contact with and being established in higher and higher states of consciousness.  It is the means to grow in spiritual and eventually the Divine Consciousness.
Savitri faces death's doorstep with love for Satyavan, despite knowing his fate. Her union and deep solitude shaped her into the Divine Mother's embodiment, empowering her to confront death and fate with yogic power.
If I could get thus displeased in presence of the human weaknesses, I would certainly not be fit to do the work I am doing, and my coming upon earth would have no meaning.
