The Road Towards the Soul, pp. 501-502 & Closing Remarks for the Canto Three

Opening Remarks
Savitri asks the gods who are hurrying to help the world. They show her the way to reach her soul.

The road
Outstretching her hands to stay the throng she cried:
“O happy company of luminous gods,
Reveal, who know, the road that I must tread,—
For surely that bright quarter is your home,—
To find the birthplace of the occult Fire
And the deep mansion of my secret soul.”

Savitri stayed the gods and addressed them thus: O happy and luminous gods, reveal to me the road that I must tread. Surely you come from there and know the paths that lead us to the birthplace of the occult Fire and the deep home of the secret soul.

One answered
One answered pointing to a silence dim
On a remote extremity of sleep
In some far background of the inner world.

One answered her pointing towards a dim silence on a remote extremity of an inmost depth in some far background of the inner world.

From thy hidden soul we come
“O Savitri, from thy hidden soul we come.

The gods said that indeed they have come from her hidden soul.

The messengers
We are the messengers, the occult gods
Who help men’s drab and heavy ignorant lives
To wake to beauty and the wonder of things
Touching them with glory and divinity;
In evil we light the deathless flame of good
And hold the torch of knowledge on ignorant roads;
We are thy will and all men’s will towards Light.

The gods are hidden in our depths in an occult dimension. They are the messengers who help men to wake up to beauty and wonder. They touch human life with glory and divinity, light the deathless flame of good in evil and hold the torch of knowledge on ignorant roads. They represent the will towards Light in man. With these words the gods introduce themselves to Savitri.

Disguise of God
O human copy and disguise of God
Who seekst the deity thou keepest hid
And livest by the Truth thou hast not known,
Follow the world’s winding highway to its source.

They continue addressing Savitri as the human copy and disguise of God who is seeking what is hidden within her and living by the Truth that she has not known. They advice her to follow the world’s winding highways to its source.

Deep cavern
There in the silence few have ever reached,
Thou shalt see the Fire burning on the bare stone
And the deep cavern of thy secret soul.”

There in the silence few have ever reached, she will see a Fire burning in the depths of Matter where she would find the deep cavern of her secret soul.

Wounded pilgrim feet
Then Savitri following the great winding road
Came where it dwindled into a narrow path
Trod only by rare wounded pilgrim feet.

Then Savitri listening to the gods followed the great winding roads and reached to an inner space where it dwindled into a narrow path trod only by a few wounded pilgrim feet.

A few bright forms
A few bright forms emerged from unknown depths
And looked at her with calm immortal eyes.

She saw a few bright forms emerged from unknown depths and looked at her with calm immortal eyes.

Silent nearness of the soul
There was no sound to break the brooding hush;
One felt the silent nearness of the soul.

There was a deep quietude and brooding hush where she felt the silent nearness of the soul.

Closing Remarks
Following the trail of the gods Savitri enters the inner spaces traversing an inward path.

Closing remarks for the Canto Three

Savitri has started her journey in search of her soul. She passes through layers of physical, vital and mental consciousness, observes what they have to offer and then goes deeper in search of her soul. As she goes deeper she meets the gods residing in her occult depths. She too initially feels the urge to go out and help the world but reins this impulse. She knows that first she must find her secret soul. Following the trail provided by the gods, Savitri journeys towards her secret soul.

Yoga means union with the Divine. In practice it implies coming in contact with and being established in higher and higher states of consciousness.  It is the means to grow in spiritual and eventually the Divine Consciousness.
Savitri faces death's doorstep with love for Satyavan, despite knowing his fate. Her union and deep solitude shaped her into the Divine Mother's embodiment, empowering her to confront death and fate with yogic power.
If I could get thus displeased in presence of the human weaknesses, I would certainly not be fit to do the work I am doing, and my coming upon earth would have no meaning.
