At the Feet of The Mother

The Awakening, pp. 527-528

Opening Remarks
Savitri has discovered her soul, become one with it. This discovery has certain consequences upon her nature and personality which undergo a change due the pressure of the soul drawing divine energies around her. Her being wakes up to deeper possibilities leading to the awakening of Kundalini Force, the secret Supernature coiled in the folds of matter.

Once more she was human
Once more she was human upon earthly soil
In the muttering night amid the rain-swept woods
And the rude cottage where she sat in trance:
That subtle world withdrew deeply within
Behind the sun-veil of the inner sight.

The marvellous state withdraws and Savitri returns to her surface human self. The cottage, her hermitage where this marvellous experience took place while she entered deep in trance was swept with heavy rain. The experience of becoming one with her soul went behind a luminous veil.

Half opened lotus bud of the heart
But now the half-opened lotus bud of her heart
Had bloomed and stood disclosed to the earthly ray;
In an image shone revealed her secret soul.

But the lotus bud of her heart, the centre in the subtle body behind which the soul dwells had opened and bloomed. Her soul could be seen in that inner space of the inmost heart by those who had the vision.

No wall or fence
There was no wall severing the soul and mind,
No mystic fence guarding from the claims of life.

The doors of the soul had opened. There was no more any wall severing it from the mind, no mystic fence hiding it behind the claims of desire-self.

Calling the mighty Mother
In its deep lotus home her being sat
As if on concentration’s marble seat,
Calling the mighty Mother of the worlds
To make this earthly tenement her house.

In its lotus home deep within her heart, she sat on concentration’s firm seat calling the mighty Mother of the worlds to make this bodily house her own.

Living image of the original Power
As in a flash from a supernal light,
A living image of the original Power,
A face, a form came down into her heart
And made of it its temple and pure abode.

Responding to her call as in a flash of supernal light the living image of the original Power, Adyashakti, a face and form came down into her heart making it her temple and pure abode. The Divine Mother turned her heart into a temple of the Supreme.

Flaming Serpent rose
But when its feet had touched the quivering bloom,
A mighty movement rocked the inner space
As if a world were shaken and found its soul:
Out of the Inconscient’s soulless mindless night
A flaming Serpent rose released from sleep.

At the touch of the Divine Mother’s feet the lotus of the heart quivered and bloomed. Her Presence rocked the inner space with a mighty movement as if the world were shaken and found its soul. A flaming serpent rose from the base of matter waking up from its sleep of obscurity and inertia.

It rose billowing
It rose billowing its coils and stood erect
And climbing mightily, stormily on its way
It touched her centres with its flaming mouth;
As if a fiery kiss had broken their sleep,
They bloomed and laughed surcharged with light and bliss.

The tremendous energy coiled at the base of the spine in the sleep of matter opened and stood erect like a serpent climbing mightily, stormily on its way upwards touching the centres in the subtle body, the knots of consciousness known as chakras. Its kiss awakened and opened them as they bloomed like flowers laughing at the downpour of light and bliss.

The Eternal’s space
Then at the crown it joined the Eternal’s space.

The coiled Energy concealed in matter rose and joined the Eternal’s space at the crown of the head.

Closing Remarks
What is described is the awakening of the Kundalini Shakti as it is called.
