Savitri Responds to the Voice of Light, p. 538

Opening Remarks
Savitri responds to the Mighty Voice of Light to undertake the next great step in her yoga.

Savitri heard
Thus spoke the mighty and uplifting Voice,
And Savitri heard; she bowed her head and mused
Plunging her deep regard into herself
In her soul’s privacy in the silent Night.

The mighty and uplifting Voice spoke and Savitri heard and bowed her head and mused. She plunged deep into herself, in her soul’s privacy in the silent Night.

Aloof and detached
Aloof and standing back detached and calm,
A witness of the drama of herself,
A student of her own interior scene,
She watched the passion and the toil of life
And heard in the crowded thoroughfares of mind
The unceasing tread and passage of her thoughts.

Aloof and detached and calm Savitri stood back within, a witness of the drama of herself. She became a student of her own inner world watching the passion and the toil of life. She heard the in the crowded public place of the mind the incessant passage of her thoughts.

Free initiative of Nature’s will
All she allowed to rise that chose to stir;
Calling, compelling nought, forbidding nought,
She left all to the process formed in Time
And the free initiative of Nature’s will.

Instead of suppressing and coercing, Savitri allowed her thoughts to rise without judging or forbidding. She left all to the initiative of Nature in her freedom and the process working out in Time.

Complex human play
Thus following the complex human play
She heard the prompter’s voice behind the scenes,
Perceived the original libretto’s set
And the organ theme of the composer Force.

Thus following the complex human play she heard the prompters of thought and speech hind the scenes, perceived the original text and the hidden theme and meaning of the Force that is composing and expressing itself.

The impulses
All she beheld that surges from man’s depths,
The animal instincts prowling mid life’s trees,
The impulses that whisper to the heart
And passion’s thunder-chase sweeping the nerves;
She saw the Powers that stare from the Abyss
And the wordless Light that liberates the soul.

Savitri beheld all that surges from man’s depths. She saw the animal instincts and the impulses that whisper to the heart. She saw the play of passion thundering and sweeping through the nerves. She saw the Powers that stare from the Abyss as well as the Power of the wordless Light that liberates the soul.

The birth of thought
But most her gaze pursued the birth of thought.

But most of all she perceived the birth of thought.

Closing Remarks
A student of herself, Savitri looked into herself becoming a witness of her nature and its operations.

Yoga means union with the Divine. In practice it implies coming in contact with and being established in higher and higher states of consciousness.  It is the means to grow in spiritual and eventually the Divine Consciousness.
Savitri faces death's doorstep with love for Satyavan, despite knowing his fate. Her union and deep solitude shaped her into the Divine Mother's embodiment, empowering her to confront death and fate with yogic power.
If I could get thus displeased in presence of the human weaknesses, I would certainly not be fit to do the work I am doing, and my coming upon earth would have no meaning.
