This talks based on the Canto titled ‘The Issue’ from Sri Aurobindo’s epic poem Savitri. Here Sri Aurobindo has raised the question through Savitri whether destiny can be altered.
When the whole world was in the midst of thick ignorance, the Divine Mother descended on earth, took a human birth and also physically took the burden of humanity. The birth of Savitri symbolizes this unique phenomenon.
After writing most of the major works like Synthesis of yoga, Ideal of human unity, The Life Divine etc, Sri Aurobindo was preparing the humanity for something special, for a unique Light of Consciousness that had never manifested so far. It was this supreme gift that He gave to man in the form of Savitri.
Classical yogas say that behind this transient creation, there is eternal Brahma. The outer nature is the temporary covering. Sri Aurobindo brought a new revelation that this transient creation too holds within itself a divine possibility.
Taking birth in this earth is not a sin as believed in many religions, rather it is a golden opportunity to grow with the unique divine portion in man called ‘the Psychic’.
But even among those who were called and chosen none could near Her inmost core or dare to soar high and far and wide towards Her home of Truth. Her silent depths remained unknown to man. Thus She lived upon Earth, for a while, great and alone like the mighty sun.
