When the psychic unfolds, a range of experiences and states of consciousness can emerge. A deep and quiet devotion towards the Divine is an obvious sign. There is also the growth of soul-powers such as faith and gratitude, enthusiasm for the Divine Service, urge for progress, spontaneous intuitive knowledge awakening in the deeper heart etc. There is usually the descent of higher powers such as Peace and Joy, Wideness and Calm. There is an ascent of aspiration and a weakening of the hold of lower nature. The Psychic emergence can open up the doors of possibilities which were yet closed for the sadhak. Opening of the psychic does not completely transform our nature but opens it to the Light and the Right. It orients everything in us to the Divine Power and thereby greatly facilitates the transformation. That is why it is called as the first of the three transformations. The awakened being can understand different dimensions of truth and discriminate easily between Truth and Falsehood. In Sri Aurobindo’s yoga, the discovery of psychic is the first milestone where the possibility of transformation of nature and life practically gets its ground. Everything falls into place if the psychic takes the lead.
