Opening Remarks
Savitri leaves the fixed bounded station of the Mind and plunges deeper into her soul.
Silent self
So she fared on across her silent self.
Savitri goes deeper towards her silent self.
Messengers from her secret soul
To a road she came thronged with an ardent crowd
Who sped brilliant, fire-footed, sunlight-eyed,
Pressing to reach the world’s mysterious wall,
And pass through masked doorways into outer mind
Where the Light comes not nor the mystic voice,
Messengers from our subliminal greatnesses,
Guests from the cavern of the secret soul.
Entering deeper into herself Savitri came across an inner road thronged with a crowd of brilliant, fire-footed, sunlight eyed faces who were pressing through masked doorways of outer mind towards the outer world. They were messengers from our hidden subliminal portions to a world where Light and the mystic voice comes not. They were Guests emerging from the cavern of her secret soul.
Wide wonder
Into dim spiritual somnolence they break
Or shed wide wonder on our waking self,
Ideas that haunt us with their radiant tread,
Dreams that are hints of unborn Reality,
Strange goddesses with deep-pooled magical eyes,
Strong wind-haired gods carrying the harps of hope,
Great moon-hued visions gliding through gold air,
Aspiration’s sun-dream head and star-carved limbs,
Emotions making common hearts sublime.
These messengers of Light and Love entered the state of spiritual sleep. They fill our outer waking consciousness with wonder and luminous ideas. They haunt us with dreams that are hints of unborn realities. She saw there strange goddesses with deep eyes, strong wind haired gods with harps of hope. She encountered moon-hued visions gliding through golden tinged air. She experienced aspiration, with its sun-dream head and star-carved limbs and sublime emotions lifting the heart towards beautiful heights.
Glorious crowd
And Savitri mingling in that glorious crowd,
Yearning to the spiritual light they bore,
Longed once to hasten like them to save God’s world;
But she reined back the high passion in her heart;
She knew that first she must discover her soul.
Savitri mingled with the glorious crowd yearning for their spiritual light and longing to hasten like them to save God’s world. But Savitri reined back the high passion in her heart knowing that she must first discover her soul.
Only who save
Only who save themselves can others save.
She knew that only they who save themselves can save others.
Towards the eternal source
In contrary sense she faced life’s riddling truth:
They carrying the light to suffering men
Hurried with eager feet to the outer world;
Her eyes were turned towards the eternal source.
Savitri faced the riddle of life in contrary sense. The gods emerging from the depths were rushing out to help the world whereas she was turned towards the eternal source.
Closing remarks
Savitri has now turned towards the inner depths with the sole aim of discovering her soul without which all else would remain a vain dream.
