The path of yoga is not an easy walk, the seeker has to often face inner resistances and wage a battle against invisible enemies. It is a long journey that goes beyond a single life-time. It is important to have something of the warrior element in one’s nature for walking the Path.
Some of terms specific to the yoga of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother are discussed, not from a linguistic but from an experiential point of view. There is also a detailed description of the meaning of Sri Aurobindo’s symbol in response to a question.
Yoga has little to do with techniques and methods which are largely subordinate and secondary. The one important thing is the central and conscious aspiration. It is this that opens the doors of the Spirit rather than any fixed technique.
Thus driven he must stride on conquering all,
Threatening and clamouring, brutal, invincible,
Until he meets upon his storm-swept road
A greater devil — or thunderstroke of God.
So also spiritual life has little to do with conventional religiosity. A very religious man may be far from the true spiritual life, often even closed to it. The stages of our evolution towards the spiritual consciousness are discussed in this talk.
Our outer life is a preparation for the inner, and the more conscious we become of our true life, our inner life, the better we are able to deal with the outer life and change it. In this talk we discuss the attitudes helpful to prepare us for the great journey.
