Conscious Guidance, pp. 378-379

Opening Remarks
There is inbuilt in life a Guidance though our mind is not aware of it and hence leads us into devious ways. But conscious beings born with a conscious soul and a mission are aware of this Guidance often from their very early years.

Calm Presence above her brows
Upon her silent heights she was aware
Of a calm Presence throned above her brows
Who saw the goal and chose each fateful curve;
It used the body for its pedestal;
The eyes that wandered were its searchlight fires,
The hands that held the reins its living tools;
All was the working of an ancient plan,
A way proposed by an unerring Guide.

Savitri is a missioned child. From her very early years she has been aware of the Divine Presence above her head. It is this that has guided her to her path and the goal. This Presence has chosen the curves of destiny for her, the outer and inner events and circumstances of her life using her body as a pedestal for a work she is born to do.

Luminous cavern of her heart
Across wide noons and glowing afternoons,
She met with Nature and with human forms
And listened to the voices of the world;
Driven from within she followed her long road,
Mute in the luminous cavern of her heart,
Like a bright cloud through the resplendent day.

Savitri has undertaken the journey through the days and noons opening her soul to the world yet always following her inmost soul in the luminous cavern of her heart. Driven by the voice within she seemed like a bright cloud moving through a resplendent day.

The beginnings of her path
At first her path ran far through peopled tracts:
Admitted to the lion eye of States
And theatres of the loud act of man,
Her carven chariot with its fretted wheels
Threaded through clamorous marts and sentinel towers
Past figured gates and high dream-sculptured fronts
And gardens hung in the sapphire of the skies,
Pillared assembly halls with armoured guards,
Small fanes where one calm Image watched man’s life
And temples hewn as if by exiled gods
To imitate their lost eternity.

Born in royalty her path naturally began from there. It was a life crowded with the loud acts in the theatre of human life surrounded with symbols of power and regal postures. Her chariot wandered through crowded markets, rich with various objects to satisfy man’s life but not the needs of his soul. She moved through amazing spaces built by man and wonderful gardens and assembly halls with carved pillars and armoured guards. She crossed small lanes and temples carved by man on the outskirts of the city.

Dusk to dawn
Often from gilded dusk to argent dawn,
Where jewel-lamps flickered on frescoed walls
And the stone lattice stared at moonlit boughs,
Half-conscious of the tardy listening night
Dimly she glided between banks of sleep
At rest in the slumbering palaces of kings.

She moved from dawn to dusk made beautiful through her seeing eyes. At nights she took shelter in the palaces of kings and listened to the silences of the Night with jewelled lamps on frescoed walls and stone lattices around the gardens. She entered gently the world of sleep in such places during the early parts of her journey.

Hamlet and village
Hamlet and village saw the fate-wain pass,
Homes of a life bent to the soil it ploughs
For sustenance of its short and passing days
That, transient, keep their old repeated course,
Unchanging in the circle of a sky
Which alters not above our mortal toil.

Her path now ran through hamlet and village away from Royalty through the house of those working with hands to till the earth. The life of farmers bent upon the soil to plough it and sow it with harvest to sustain his short and passing days. It is also indicative of the life of the average man that along mechanical grooves along old repeated tracks, unchanging below the sky ever tied to bis fate.

Closing Remarks
We see Savitri undertaking this journey in search of her mate. But none is found where her heart can stay amidst the life of kings and the commoner alike.
