Sri Aurobindo reveals to us the gods of the Vedas who are now lost in antiquity especially as they underwent a change due to overlapping and parallel terminologies with which they are described later in the Puranas. Each of the gods is a power and aspect of the One with a certain function to help man in his journey. There is a certain parallel of these gods that one finds in ancient mystic lore in Greek and certain other mythologies suggesting an age of mysteries and a common human stock from where the different lines branched out as streams to nourish mankind’s eternal quest.
Chapter after chapter we find a detailed descriptive understanding of the main gods and goddesses of the Vedas from the new Science of Philology revealed to us by Sri Aurobindo. The mutual relation of these gods and their ultimate emergence from the One Being are all beautifully explained. The entire jigsaw puzzle of the Vedas is resolved for us with the perfection that only one who has returned from the higher planes having realized the ancient truths can do.
