Vital is the name given to that part in us which is the seat of desires, impulses, ambitions, emotions and all the various impulsions of the life energy (प्राण / प्राणमय कोश) that ordinarily move us. Vital is in everybody but it is usually restless, acts under a host of impulses that pull and push us in contradictory directions. The more disorganised it is, the more life becomes chaotic. It has to be first brought under the control of reason or better still the discerning intellect. It needs to be slowly disciplined with the help of a higher reason. Then by turning it to the Divine it gets converted and changes into a luminous force and an instrument for the Divine purpose. Finally, it is slowly transformed into a divinised vital full of spiritual energy and moved only by the Divine Mother’s Shakti.
Psychic being is the name given in this yoga to the evolving soul in man. It is the indestructible divine element in man that passes from life to life through the doors of death to grow into its full stature. It is who we truly are. To realise the psychic means to unite with our soul. This leads to a tremendous inner shift with its consequences, the most important of which is an opening to the Divine and Her Grace and Love and Peace and Light and Force and Joy. Finally as it begins to exert influence upon the different parts of our nature, upon the mind, life and body, they too undergo a change and open and give themselves to the Divine leading to a blossoming of their higher diviner possibilities. This is called the psychic transformation.
