The Supramental Life, pp. 327-328

Opening remarks
Having revealed to us the nature of Supramental Thought Sri Aurobindo now gives us a glimpse of what Supramental Life is in its own domain.

No gulf
There was no gulf between the thought and fact,
Ever they replied like bird to calling bird;
The will obeyed the thought, the act the will.

Here our life is shadowed by division. Here we find a constant tussle between thought and fact, will and act. No such gulf existed in the Supramental world. What the Spirit saw was realised at once. All was sincerity and truth and force born of Truth.

Harmony
There was a harmony woven twixt soul and soul.

The Supramental world is a world of Truth that is one with Harmony and Delight.

Time and eternity
A marriage with eternity divinised Time.

Not only was division between thought and act, soul and soul was healed but also between the dance of eternity with Time. Time followed perfectly the rhythms set for the play by the Eternal.

The bright adventure
There Life pursued, unwearied of her sport,
Joy in her heart and laughter on her lips,
The bright adventure of God’s game of chance.

The adventure of the play that is due to the sense of the unforeseen was there too but it was a bright adventure and not one beset with ignorance and suffering. All was happy and beautiful.

Constant self-discovery
In her ingenious ardour of caprice,
In her transfiguring mirth she mapped on Time
A fascinating puzzle of events,
Lured at each turn by new vicissitudes
To self-discovery that could never cease.

There was the joy of constant self-discovery as new manifestations were constantly emerging yet rooted in oneness, unity and harmony. The events and circumstances followed the movement of universal Self with perfection and without any delay or flaw.

The great Adventure
Ever she framed stark bonds for the will to break,
Brought new creations for the thought’s surprise
And passionate ventures for the heart to dare,
Where Truth recurred with an unexpected face
Or else repeated old familiar joy
Like the return of a delightful rhyme.

Life created its own challenges for the joy of discovery and new adventure. She brought forth new creations and passionate ventures for thought to dare and for Truth to wear a new and unexpected form. Or else the old was repeated with a delightful rhythm.

Hide and seek
At hide-and-seek on a Mother-Wisdom’s breast,
An artist teeming with her world-idea,
She never could exhaust its numberless thoughts
And vast adventure into thinking shapes
And trial and lure of a new living’s dreams.

Life enjoys her game of hide and seek. But this game becomes a cause of pain and fear due to ignorance. But in the Supramental world there was always felt and known the Wisdom behind the play. The adventure and the trial and lure of new dreams became there a joyous play. Thus All-knowledge and a deliberate self-concealment were reconciled harmoniously. The self-concealment was conscious and at any time it could be brought to the surface. It was just put behind and not forgotten.

Sameness and change
Untired of sameness and untired of change,
Endlessly she unrolled her moving act,
A mystery drama of divine delight,
A living poem of world-ecstasy,
A kakemono of significant forms,
A coiled perspective of developing scenes,
A brilliant chase of self-revealing shapes,
An ardent hunt of soul looking for soul,
A seeking and a finding as of gods.

Sameness and change were beautifully reconciled in the Supramental Life as it played out its mystery drama in countless ways to multiply delight. Life was a living poem of ecstasy where forms were means of augmenting the delight of the senses and the discovery of souls looking out for souls and a seeking and the joy of finding.

Closing Remarks
The Supramental Life is a far greater wonder and delight than any earthly life can offer or even imagine and conceive. It has its own intensities and charms, its own adventure and the joy of seeking and finding. Yet all is governed with the open play of Wisdom and Harmony and Delight.
