Opening Remarks
The coming of Spring brings a new hope to earth. The riot of colours and scents and creative blooms is like a carnival of beauty bringing with it a mood of joy.
God’s sensuous joy
A soft celestial urge surprised the blood
Rich with the instinct of God’s sensuous joys;
Revealed in beauty, a cadence was abroad
Insistent on the rapture-thrill in life:
Immortal movements touched the fleeting hours.
A godlike urge seemed to suddenly invade the heart. This urge was filling the very senses with God’s joys. Sight and sound were a revelation of beauty and a cadence thrilled life with a rapture touching the transient moments with immortal movements.
Intensity of sense
A godlike packed intensity of sense
Made it a passionate pleasure even to breathe;
All sights and voices wove a single charm.
A divine intensity flooded the senses making even breathing a passionate pleasure. All sights and voices wove together a single charm.
Storm of sweetness
The life of the enchanted globe became
A storm of sweetness and of light and song,
A revel of colour and of ecstasy,
A hymn of rays, a litany of cries:
A strain of choral priestly music sang
And, swung on the swaying censer of the trees,
A sacrifice of perfume filled the hours.
The earth enchanted under the spell of spring was stormed with sweetness and light and song and a joyous togetherness of colours and a hymn of rays and a recitation and choral of priestly songs and music. The trees became like censers holding an incense whose perfume was filling the moments as if earth was engaged in a sublime sacrifice to the Heavens.
Unstained desire
Asocas burned in crimson spots of flame,
Pure like the breath of an unstained desire
White jasmines haunted the enamoured air,
Pale mango-blossoms fed the liquid voice
Of the love-maddened coïl, and the brown bee
Muttered in fragrance mid the honey-buds.
The crimson flowers of the Asoca tree were as flames like desires that are yet unstained by the crookedness of the mind. White jasmine flowers charmed the air and pale mango fruits lent a sweetness to the beautiful voice of the love-maddened coil. The brown bee hummed at the smell of the fresh flower buds.
Great god’s golden smile
The sunlight was a great god’s golden smile.
The sunlight was a golden smile of the mighty and majestic Sun-God.
Beauty’s festival
All Nature was at beauty’s festival.
Material Nature was rejoicing the advent to come. She was the first to respond and filled the air with the mood of festivity born from the heart of beauty.
Closing Remarks
Thus we see here a most wonderful, vivid and a living description of spring that fills the world with beauty and delight.
