The Morning Gleam, pp. 601-602

Opening Remarks
Morning arrives and the three skirt along the heavens.

Twilight of the gods
There is a morning twilight of the gods;
Miraculous from sleep their forms arise
And God’s long nights are justified by dawn.

The morning twilight is the arrival of Dawn, the hour when the gods awake and become active in creation. It is the hour of awakening in the mind of man and his turn towards idealism.

Splendour of new birth
There breaks a passion and splendour of new birth
And hue-winged visions stray across the lids,
Heaven’s chanting heralds waken dim-eyed Space.

This first awakening of mankind to something higher is like a new birth, a birth into the higher realms filling us with passion and splendour. Dreams and visions of an idealistic life fly across the fields of mind. The mind’s inner spaces open their dim eyes to voices that chant as heralds of the dawn inspiring us to new heights.

Dreaming deities
The dreaming deities look beyond the seen
And fashion in their thoughts the ideal worlds
Sprung from a limitless moment of desire
That once had lodged in some abysmal heart.

The deities of the higher Mind that make their visitations only in dreams started shaping ideal worlds through the thoughts of man. They sprang in a limitless moment of desire that dwelt in some deep inmost heart of creation.

Strange ecstasy
Passed was the heaviness of the eyeless dark
And all the sorrow of the night was dead:
Surprised by a blind joy with groping hands
Like one who wakes to find his dreams were true,
Into a happy misty twilit world
Where all ran after light and joy and love
She slipped; there far-off raptures drew more close
And deep anticipations of delight,
For ever eager to be grasped and held,
Were never grasped, yet breathed strange ecstasy.

As they entered this twilight zone of the higher Mind, the grief and sorrow of the heavy dark Night passed away. A blind joy surprised the heart as if one woke up from a beautiful dream and found it to be true.

They came into a happy world seeking for light and love and joy. All ran after some far off rapture and deep anticipation of delight that was never grasped yet breathed some strange ecstasy.

Pearly-winged indistinctness
A pearl-winged indistinctness fleeting swam,
An air that dared not suffer too much light.

The light and joy swam fleeting and indistinct, with pearly wings lest the air dare not suffer too much light.

Closing Remarks
A new realm opened before the three in their journey through the inner fields.

I have objected in the past to Vairagya of the ascetic kind and the tamasic kind and by the tamasic kind I mean that spirit which comes defeated from life.
