Opening Remarks
Aswapati is too much into the Future. He has seen that the Age that he is born in is going to die and thereby pave the way for the New Creation.
Giant dance of Shiva
A giant dance of Shiva tore the past;
There was a thunder as of worlds that fall;
Earth was o’errun with fire and the roar of Death
Clamouring to slay a world his hunger had made;
There was a clangour of Destruction’s wings:
The Titan’s battle-cry was in my ears,
Alarm and rumour shook the armoured Night.
Shiva is the mighty Destroyer whose tandava dance clears the way for the New Creation. Aswapati has witnessed this dance of Shiva destroying the past leading to the destruction of the old world collapsing under its falsehoods. It was built by hunger that is death to satisfy the dwarf lusts and hunger of an early animal humanity. It has served its purpose and the time has come for it to go and give [place to a new and higher order, a diviner humanity. Matter has been kneaded enough by the prick of lust and desire. It has woken up from the swoon of Inconscience and is now ready to an extent to wake up to a greater Law, the Law of Truth. In this hour whatever clings obstinately to the old is bound to disappear through the usual means of nature such as catastrophe, war etc.
Omnipotent’s flaming pioneers
I saw the Omnipotent’s flaming pioneers
Over the heavenly verge which turns towards life
Come crowding down the amber stairs of birth;
Forerunners of a divine multitude,
Out of the paths of the morning star they came
Into the little room of mortal life.
At the same time, even as the Past is being destroyed the new is taking birth. The Future is being shaped through the children of tomorrow who are being born in this age of transition. They are rushing down to earth to participate in the New Creation. Forerunners of the New Age they are taking birth in human bodies to help in the great transition.
Twilight of an age
I saw them cross the twilight of an age,
The sun-eyed children of a marvellous dawn,
The great creators with wide brows of calm,
The massive barrier-breakers of the world
And wrestlers with destiny in her lists of will,
The labourers in the quarries of the gods,
The messengers of the Incommunicable,
The architects of immortality.
They are crossing the twilight age when the old age is beginning to die and the new one is being ushered in. They are children of God, His rays and emanations, vibhutis who are descending through the stairway of birth to be the first born pioneers of the New Race. They are the hope, bringing with them the dreams of a sunlit luminous future in their eyes. They are born to create new forms upon earth breaking the limits and barriers of human thought and possibilities. They would wrestle with destiny and fate and labour to create quarries and furrows for gods to sow the seeds of a New Creation. Messengers of the Incommunicable they have come to build immortally with transient things.
Fallen human sphere
Into the fallen human sphere they came,
Faces that wore the Immortal’s glory still,
Voices that communed still with the thoughts of God,
Bodies made beautiful by the spirit’s light,
Carrying the magic word, the mystic fire,
Carrying the Dionysian cup of joy,
Approaching eyes of a diviner man,
Lips chanting an unknown anthem of the soul,
Feet echoing in the corridors of Time.
They are beings of a higher consciousness who have entered the little room of human life that rolls in the mud of lower nature. Their faces still held the glory of the soul and their thoughts communed with the Thoughts of God. Their bodies itself was formed in a way as to reflect something of the inner light. Carrying with them the cup of joy that Nature hides their eyes had the touch of divinity in them. Their lips chanted an anthem of the soul that held the future intuitively within itself. Their feet traversed the corridors of future yet to be born. They are children born to usher the future and often travel into the future and bring its gifts to the world.
Justify the light on Nature’s face
High priests of wisdom, sweetness, might and bliss,
Discoverers of beauty’s sunlit ways
And swimmers of Love’s laughing fiery floods
And dancers within rapture’s golden doors,
Their tread one day shall change the suffering earth
And justify the light on Nature’s face.
They are the harbingers of the needed change upon earth. Bringing a wisdom from the heights and carrying within their hearts the sweetness, might and bliss of the Divine they would swim in fiery floods of love. They would bring a new rhythm in the dance of creation drawing from the highest seats of rapture annulling the suffering moods of earth and bringing out in full the light one sees sometimes on the face of Nature and her creation. They will be beings of wisdom, love, strength and delight and their very presence shall have a beneficent effect upon earth.
Closing Remarks
Sri Aurobindo’s prophetic vision is described here as the coming of children who would embody the New Creation even as the Past would soon collapse along with its ways established since old.
