Opening Remarks
Life starts its tremendous journey through many routes and pathways of ignorance, aided by its own instinct towards Truth and Freedom and Bliss.
Vain and unending sacrifice
But vain unending is the sacrifice,
The priest an ignorant mage who only makes
Futile mutations in the altar’s plan
And casts blind hopes into a powerless flame.
The effort of life to discover itself seems like a long and unending sacrifice to the flame lit within matter. She throws her blind hopes and longings as sacrifice offered at the body’s altar by the priests and godheads of Ignorance that presently govern our earth-nature. The result is only some changes in the external form without changing the consciousness within.
Burden of Transient gains
A burden of transient gains weighs down her steps
And hardly under that load can she advance;
But the hours cry to her, she travels on
Passing from thought to thought, from want to want;
Her greatest progress is a deepened need.
Life is torn between transient gains that delay her on the way and her seeking for the Eternal and True. The momentary satisfaction of desires does not fill her gulfs but only increases the need for more. It is out of the womb of the Infinite that she is born and it is the Infinite that she seeks. Finite things cannot satisfy her for long. They end up only increasing her hunger.
Steps of her ascension
Matter dissatisfies, she turns to Mind;
She conquers earth, her field, then claims the heavens.
Emerging from matter and creating living forms, she turns to mind for her joy and satisfaction. Going beyond mind she turns to conquer other realms beyond.
The stumbling ages
Insensible, breaking the work she has done
The stumbling ages over her labour pass,
But still no great transforming light came down
And no revealing rapture touched her fall.
And yet she continues to labour and struggle and stumble in search of the Perfection that still eludes her.
Dark clue to some diviner state
Only a glimmer sometimes splits mind’s sky
Justifying the ambiguous providence
That makes of night a path to unknown dawns
Or a dark clue to some diviner state.
From time to time she sees a light as if a new dawn had touched her heart. Momentarily the curtain of darkness that hangs over her eyes is lifted showing her the path to travel and filling her with a fresh impetus and hope. Thus she continues on her long and tremendous journey.
Groping for Knowledge
In Nescience began her mighty task,
In Ignorance she pursues the unfinished work,
For knowledge gropes, but meets not Wisdom’s face.
She started her journey in the utter darkness and Nescience. She moves through the grey fields of Ignorance, feels the uplifting touch of Knowledge here and there but is yet to see the face of Wisdom.
In search of Paradise
Ascending slowly with unconscious steps,
A foundling of the Gods she wanders here
Like a child-soul left near the gates of Hell
Fumbling through fog in search of Paradise.
Thus she travels on helped and assisted by the gods. Slowly she ascends towards some happy diviner state. But to reach there she must travel through hell fumbling through the fog and mist of earthly life.
Closing Remarks
This is the path of Life, the curve of her destiny that she must traverse from matter to mind and beyond. Now helped by the gods, now struggling helpless and alone she drives upon the pathways carved for her by Fate. She continues to labour and will do so until her task for which she is born is finished and the deed that the Divine has put in her mighty heart is done.
