Life as it organized today without a doubt seems like a cruel joke we play upon ourselves. Whatever justifications we may give it is largely driven by money which caters to only some outer comforts. The most important things cannot be bought by money and yet most of our time and energy is spent upon that. Of course some good takes place through all this but it is slow and through a long circuitous route. By the time we realise that it is not for this that we have taken birth it is too late. our energies have sapped out and bound by habit we find it difficult to change our ways. Yes spiritual pursuit, finding the Divine needs time and energy. What then is to be done. I think the best that can be done while one lives in the world as it is today is to practice some kind of a yoga of the Gita, that is to say to Remember (the Divine) and offer all one’s actions and impulsions and thoughts and feelings, events and circumstances to the Divine. This is best done through writing a diary of prayers and communications to the Divine.
It is also true that the extreme conditions of the world often ignite in us the fire of aspiration due to the contrast between our dream of a beautiful life and the outer reality. On the other hand, if we leave the world prematurely then the same world begins to attract us again after some time especially as the initial rush of the Godward climb starts wearing off. Few can sustain the momentum unless one has learnt to depend upon the Mother. That is why it takes long and one has to go through many experiences, often quite painful ones until one is no more attracted to the illusory achievements of the worldly life and sees through its charming facade. Until then one walks with unsteady feet facing the various circumstances and challenges of life until prepared and chastened by them we are ready for the utter embrace of God.
