Golconde

A short documentary on Golconde, a dormitory at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India, which was designed by architects Antonin Raymond and George Nakashima, and built in 1937-1942.
Golconde was the first reinforced concrete building in India and manifests architecture as the union of aesthetics, technology, and social mission.
As Raymond wrote, “the purpose of the dormitory was not primarily the housing of the disciples; it was the creating of an activity, the materialization of an idea, by which the disciples might learn, might experience, might develop, through contact with the erection of a fine building.”
