Sukta 9
4.9.1
अग्ने॑ मृ॒ळ म॒हाँ अ॑सि॒ य ई॒मा दे॑व॒युं जनं॑ ।
इ॒येथ॑ ब॒र्हिरा॒सदं॑ ॥
ágne mṛḷá mahā́n asi yáḥ īm ā́ deva-yúm jánam ǀ
iyétha barhíḥ ā-sádam ǁ
O Flame, be gracious, for great art thou who comest to the seeker of the godheads to sit on his seat of sacrifice.
4.9.2
स मानु॑षीषु दू॒ळभो॑ वि॒क्षु प्रा॒वीरम॑र्त्यः ।
दू॒तो विश्वे॑षां भुवत् ॥
sáḥ mā́nuṣīṣu duḥ-dábhaḥ vikṣú pra-avī́ḥ ámartyaḥ ǀ
dūtáḥ víśveṣām bhuvat ǁ
He becomes manifest in human beings1, invincible2, immortal, the messenger of all.
4.9.3
स सद्म॒ परि॑ णीयते॒ होता॑ मं॒द्रो दिवि॑ष्टिषु ।
उ॒त पोता॒ नि षी॑दति ॥
sáḥ sádma pári nīyate hótā mandráḥ díviṣṭiṣu ǀ
utá pótā ní sīdati ǁ
He is borne round the house, a rapturous Priest of the call in our heavenward urges; he takes his seat as the Priest of the purification.
4.9.4
उ॒त ग्ना अ॒ग्निर॑ध्व॒र उ॒तो गृ॒हप॑ति॒र्दमे॑ ।
उ॒त ब्र॒ह्मा नि षी॑दति ॥
utá gnā́ḥ agníḥ adhvaré utó␣íti gṛhá-patiḥ dáme ǀ
utá brahmā́ ní sīdati ǁ
The Fire is the Goddess-powers in the pilgrim-rite and he is the master of the house in his home, he sits too as the Priest of the word.
4.9.5
वेषि॒ ह्य॑ध्वरीय॒तामु॑पव॒क्ता जना॑नां ।
ह॒व्या च॒ मानु॑षाणां ॥
véṣi hí adhvari-yatā́m upa-vaktā́ jánānām ǀ
havyā́ ca mā́nuṣāṇām ǁ
Thou comest to the offerings as the speaker of the sanction for human beings when they would perform the pilgrim-sacrifice.
4.9.6
वेषीद्व॑स्य दू॒त्यं१่ यस्य॒ जुजो॑षो अध्व॒रं ।
ह॒व्यं मर्त॑स्य॒ वोळ्ह॑वे ॥
véṣi ít ūṃ␣íti asya dūtyám yásya jújoṣaḥ adhvarám ǀ
havyám mártasya vóḷhave ǁ
Thou comest to be his envoy to him in whose sacrifice thou takest pleasure to carry the offerings of the mortal.
4.9.7
अ॒स्माकं॑ जोष्यध्व॒रम॒स्माकं॑ य॒ज्ञमं॑गिरः ।
अ॒स्माकं॑ शृणुधी॒ हवं॑ ॥
asmā́kam joṣi adhvarám asmā́kam yajñám aṅgiraḥ ǀ
asmā́kam śṛṇudhi hávam ǁ
Take pleasure in our pilgrim-rite, in our sacrifice, O Angiras, hear our call.
4.9.8
परि॑ ते दू॒ळभो॒ रथो॒ऽस्माँ अ॑श्नोतु वि॒श्वतः॑ ।
येन॒ रक्ष॑सि दा॒शुषः॑ ॥
pári te duḥ-dábhaḥ ráthaḥ asmā́n aśnotu viśvátaḥ ǀ
yéna rákṣasi dāśúṣaḥ ǁ
Let thy invincible car reach us and move round us on every side by which thou guardest the givers of the offering.
