2.5.1
होता॑जनिष्ट॒ चेत॑नः पि॒ता पि॒तृभ्य॑ ऊ॒तये॑ ।
प्र॒यक्षं॒जेन्यं॒ वसु॑ श॒केम॑ वा॒जिनो॒ यमं॑ ॥
hótā ajaniṣṭa cétanaḥ pitā́ pitṛ́-bhyaḥ ūtáye ǀ
pra-yákṣan jényam vásu śakéma vājínaḥ yámam ǁ
A conscious Priest of the call is born to us; a father is born to his fathers for their safeguard. May we avail to achieve by sacrifice the wealth that is for the victor1, and to rein the Horse of swiftness.
2.5.2
आ यस्मि॑न्त्स॒प्त र॒श्मय॑स्त॒ता य॒ज्ञस्य॑ ने॒तरि॑ ।
म॒नु॒ष्वद्दैव्य॑मष्ट॒मं पोता॒ विश्वं॒ तदि॑न्वति ॥
ā́ yásmin saptá raśmáyaḥ tatā́ḥ yajñásya netári ǀ
manuṣvát dáivyam aṣṭamám pótā víśvam tát invati ǁ
The seven rays are extended in this leader of sacrifice; there is a divine eighth that carries with it the human. The Priest of the purification takes possession of2 That All.
2.5.3
द॒ध॒न्वे वा॒ यदी॒मनु॒ वोच॒द्ब्रह्मा॑णि॒ वेरु॒ तत् ।
परि॒ विश्वा॑नि॒ काव्या॑ ने॒मिश्च॒क्रमि॑वाभवत् ॥
dadhanvé vā yát īm ánu vócat bráhmāṇi véḥ ūṃ␣íti tát ǀ
pári víśvāni kā́vyā nemíḥ cakrám-iva abhavat ǁ
When a man has firmly established this Fire, he echoes the Words of knowledge and comes to3 That: for he embraces all seer-wisdoms as the rim surrounds a wheel.
2.5.4
सा॒कं हि शुचि॑ना॒ शुचिः॑ प्रशा॒स्ता क्रतु॒नाज॑नि ।
वि॒द्वाँ अ॑स्य व्र॒ता ध्रु॒वा व॒या इ॒वानु॑ रोहते ॥
sākám hí śúcinā śúciḥ pra-śāstā́ krátunā ájani ǀ
vidvā́n asya vratā́ dhruvā́ vayā́ḥ-iva ánu rohate ǁ
Pure, the Priest of the annunciation is born along with the pure will. The man who knows the laws of his workings that are steadfast for ever, climbs them one by one like branches.
2.5.5
ता अ॑स्य॒ वर्ण॑मा॒युवो॒ नेष्टुः॑ सचंत धे॒नवः॑ ।
कु॒वित्ति॒सृभ्य॒ आ वरं॒ स्वसा॑रो॒ या इ॒दं य॒युः ॥
tā́ḥ asya várṇam āyúvaḥ néṣṭuḥ sacanta dhenávaḥ ǀ
kuvít tisṛ́-bhyaḥ ā́ váram svásāraḥ yā́ḥ idám yayúḥ ǁ
The milch-cows come to and cleave to the hue of Light4 of this Priest of the lustration, the Sisters who have gone once 
and again to that Supreme over the three5.
2.5.6
यदी॑ मा॒तुरुप॒ स्वसा॑ घृ॒तं भरं॒त्यस्थि॑त ।
तासा॑मध्व॒र्युराग॑तौ॒ यवो॑ वृ॒ष्टीव॑ मोदते ॥
yádi mātúḥ úpa svásā ghṛtám bhárantī ásthita ǀ
tā́sām adhvaryúḥ ā́-gatau yávaḥ vṛṣṭī́-iva modate ǁ
When the sister of the Mother comes to him bringing the yield of the Light, the Priest of the pilgrim-sacrifice rejoices in her advent as a field of barley revels in the rain.
2.5.7
स्वः स्वाय॒ धाय॑से कृणु॒तामृ॒त्विगृ॒त्विजं॑ ।
स्तोमं॑ य॒ज्ञं चादरं॑ व॒नेमा॑ ररि॒मा व॒यं ॥
sváḥ svā́ya dhā́yase kṛṇutā́m ṛtvík ṛtvíjam ǀ
stómam yajñám ca ā́t áram vanéma rarimá vayám ǁ
Himself for his own confirming let the Priest of the rite create the Priest; let us take joy of the laud and the sacrifice, for then it is complete6, what we have given7.
2.5.8
यथा॑ वि॒द्वाँ अरं॒ कर॒द्विश्वे॑भ्यो यज॒तेभ्यः॑ ।
अ॒यम॑ग्ने॒ त्वे अपि॒ यं य॒ज्ञं च॑कृ॒मा व॒यं ॥
yáthā vidvā́n áram kárat víśvebhyaḥ yajatébhyaḥ ǀ
ayám agne tvé␣íti ápi yám yajñám cakṛmá vayám ǁ
Even as one who has the knowledge let him work out the rite for all the lords of the sacrifice. On thee, O Fire, is this sacrifice that we have made.
