Sukta 80
10.80.1
अ॒ग्निः सप्तिं॑ वाजंभ॒रं द॑दात्य॒ग्निर्वी॒रं श्रुत्यं॑ कर्मनि॒ष्ठां ।
अ॒ग्नी रोद॑सी॒ वि च॑रत्समं॒जन्न॒ग्निर्नारीं॑ वी॒रकु॑क्षिं॒ पुरं॑धिं ॥
agníḥ sáptim vājam-bharám dadāti agníḥ vīrám śrútyam karmaniḥ-sthā́m ǀ
agníḥ ródasī␣íti ví carat sam-añján agníḥ nā́rīm vīrá-kukṣim púram-dhim ǁ
Fire gives to us the Horse that carries the plenitude, Fire gives the Hero who has the inspired hearing and stands firm in the work; Fire ranges through earth and heaven revealing all things, Fire gives the Woman, the tenant of the city1, from whose womb is born the hero.
10.80.2
अ॒ग्नेरप्न॑सः स॒मिद॑स्तु भ॒द्राग्निर्म॒ही रोद॑सी॒ आ वि॑वेश ।
अ॒ग्निरेकं॑ चोदयत्स॒मत्स्व॒ग्निर्वृ॒त्राणि॑ दयते पु॒रूणि॑ ॥
agnéḥ ápnasaḥ sam-ít astu bhadrā́ agníḥ mahī́␣íti ródasī␣íti ā́ viveśa ǀ
agníḥ ékam codayat samát-su agníḥ vṛtrā́ṇi dayate purū́ṇi ǁ
May there be a happy fuel for Fire at his labour, Fire enters into the great earth and heaven: Fire urges on one who is all alone in his battles, Fire cleaves asunder the multitude of the enemy.
10.80.3
अ॒ग्निर्ह॒ त्यं जर॑तः॒ कर्ण॑मावा॒ग्निर॒द्भ्यो निर॑दह॒ज्जरू॑थं ।
अ॒ग्निरत्रिं॑ घ॒र्म उ॑रुष्यदं॒तर॒ग्निर्नृ॒मेधं॑ प्र॒जया॑सृज॒त्सं ॥
agníḥ ha tyám járataḥ kárṇam āva agníḥ at-bhyáḥ níḥ adahat járūtham ǀ
agníḥ átrim gharmé uruṣyat antáḥ agníḥ nṛ-médham pra-jáyā asṛjat sám ǁ
Fire has protected the ear2 of the worshipper3, Fire burnt out the Waster4 from the waters; Fire delivered Atri within the blaze5, Fire united man’s sacrifice with its progeny6.
10.80.4
अ॒ग्निर्दा॒द्द्रवि॑णं वी॒रपे॑शा अ॒ग्निर्ऋषिं॒ यः स॒हस्रा॑ स॒नोति॑ ।
अ॒ग्निर्दि॒वि ह॒व्यमा त॑ताना॒ग्नेर्धामा॑नि॒ विभृ॑ता पुरु॒त्रा ॥
agníḥ dāt dráviṇam vīrá-peśāḥ agníḥ ṛ́ṣim yáḥ sahásrā sanóti ǀ
agníḥ diví havyám ā́ tatāna agnéḥ dhā́māni ví-bhṛtā puru-trā́ ǁ
May Fire in the hero’s shape give us the Treasure, may Fire give us the sage who wins the thousands; Fire has extended the offering in heaven, his are the planes upheld separately in many spaces.
10.80.5
अ॒ग्निमु॒क्थैर्ऋष॑यो॒ वि ह्व॑यंते॒ऽग्निं नरो॒ याम॑नि बाधि॒तासः॑ ।
अ॒ग्निं वयो॑ अं॒तरि॑क्षे॒ पतं॑तो॒ऽग्निः स॒हस्रा॒ परि॑ याति॒ गोनां॑ ॥
agním uktháiḥ ṛ́ṣayaḥ ví hvayante agním náraḥ yā́mani bādhitā́saḥ ǀ
agním váyaḥ antárikṣe pátantaḥ agníḥ sahásrā pári yāti gónām ǁ
Fire the sages with their utterances call to every side, to Fire men call who are opposed in their march, to Fire the Birds flying in mid-air; Fire encircles the thousands of the Ray-Cows.
10.80.6
अ॒ग्निं विश॑ ईळते॒ मानु॑षी॒र्या अ॒ग्निं मनु॑षो॒ नहु॑षो॒ वि जा॒ताः ।
अ॒ग्निर्गांध॑र्वीं प॒थ्या॑मृ॒तस्या॒ग्नेर्गव्यू॑तिर्घृ॒त आ निष॑त्ता ॥
agním víśaḥ īḷate mā́nuṣīḥ yā́ḥ agním mánuṣaḥ náhuṣaḥ ví jātā́ḥ ǀ
agníḥ gā́ndharvīm pathyā́m ṛtásya agnéḥ gávyūtiḥ ghṛté ā́ ní-sattā ǁ
Fire the peoples pray who are human, Fire men of different birth who dwell as neighbours, Fire brings the Gandharvi to the path of the Truth, the Fire’s path of the ray-cows is settled in the Light.
10.80.7
अ॒ग्नये॒ ब्रह्म॑ ऋ॒भव॑स्ततक्षुर॒ग्निं म॒हाम॑वोचामा सुवृ॒क्तिं ।
अग्ने॒ प्राव॑ जरि॒तारं॑ यवि॒ष्ठाग्ने॒ महि॒ द्रवि॑ण॒मा य॑जस्व ॥
agnáye bráhma ṛbhávaḥ tatakṣuḥ agním mahā́m avocāma su-vṛktím ǀ
ágne prá ava jaritā́ram yaviṣṭha ágne máhi dráviṇam ā́ yajasva ǁ
The divine craftsmen have fashioned the Wisdom-Word for the Fire, the Fire we have declared as a vast purification. O ever-youthful Fire, protect thy worshipper; O Fire, win for him by sacrifice the great Treasure.
