10.69.1
भ॒द्रा अ॒ग्नेर्व॑ध्र्य॒श्वस्य॑ सं॒दृशो॑ वा॒मी प्रणी॑तिः सु॒रणा॒ उपे॑तयः ।
यदीं॑ सुमि॒त्रा विशो॒ अग्र॑ इं॒धते॑ घृ॒तेनाहु॑तो जरते॒ दवि॑द्युतत् ॥
bhadrā́ḥ agnéḥ vadhri-aśvásya sam-dṛ́śaḥ vāmī́ prá-nītiḥ su-ráṇāḥ úpa-itayaḥ ǀ
yát īm su-mitrā́ḥ víśaḥ ágre indháte ghṛténa ā́-hutaḥ jarate dávidyutat ǁ
Happy are the seeings of the Fire of the gelded Horse, pleasurable his guidance, delightful his approaches; when the friendly peoples set him ablaze in their front, fed with the oblations of the Light he flames up for his worshipper.
10.69.2
घृ॒तम॒ग्नेर्व॑ध्र्य॒श्वस्य॒ वर्ध॑नं घृ॒तमन्नं॑ घृ॒तम्व॑स्य॒ मेद॑नं ।
घृ॒तेनाहु॑त उर्वि॒या वि प॑प्रथे॒ सूर्य॑ इव रोचते स॒र्पिरा॑सुतिः ॥
ghṛtám agnéḥ vadhri-aśvásya várdhanam ghṛtám ánnam ghṛtám ūṃ␣íti asya médanam ǀ
ghṛténa ā́-hutaḥ urviyā́ ví paprathe sū́ryaḥ-iva rocate sarpíḥ-āsutiḥ ǁ
The Light is the increasing of the Fire of the gelded Horse, Light is his food, Light is his fattening: fed with the oblation of the Light wide he spread; he shines as the Sun when there is poured on him its running stream.
10.69.3
यत्ते॒ मनु॒र्यदनी॑कं सुमि॒त्रः स॑मी॒धे अ॑ग्ने॒ तदि॒दं नवी॑यः ।
स रे॒वच्छो॑च॒ स गिरो॑ जुषस्व॒ स वाजं॑ दर्षि॒ स इ॒ह श्रवो॑ धाः ॥
yát te mánuḥ yát ánīkam su-mitráḥ sam-īdhé agne tát idám návīyaḥ ǀ
sáḥ revát śoca sáḥ gíraḥ juṣasva sáḥ vā́jam darṣi sáḥ ihá śrávaḥ dhāḥ ǁ
The force of flame which thinking man, which the friendly one, set ablaze, this is that new force, O Fire; so opulently shine, so accept our words, so take the plenitude by violence, so found here the inspired knowledge.
10.69.4
यं त्वा॒ पूर्व॑मीळि॒तो व॑ध्र्य॒श्वः स॑मी॒धे अ॑ग्ने॒ स इ॒दं जु॑षस्व ।
स नः॑ स्ति॒पा उ॒त भ॑वा तनू॒पा दा॒त्रं र॑क्षस्व॒ यदि॒दं ते॑ अ॒स्मे ॥
yám tvā pū́rvam īḷitáḥ vadhri-aśváḥ sam-īdhé agne sáḥ idám juṣasva ǀ
sáḥ naḥ sti-pā́ḥ utá bhava tanū-pā́ḥ dātrám rakṣasva yát idám te asmé␣íti ǁ
That flame of thine of old which the gelded Horse, when prayed, set blazing high, O Fire who art that flame, this too accept; as that flame, become the protector of our stable erections and the protector of our bodies, guard this giving of thine which is here in us.
10.69.5
भवा॑ द्यु॒म्नी वा॑ध्र्यश्वो॒त गो॒पा मा त्वा॑ तारीद॒भिमा॑ति॒र्जना॑नां ।
शूर॑ इव धृ॒ष्णुश्च्यव॑नः सुमि॒त्रः प्र नु वो॑चं॒ वाध्र्य॑श्वस्य॒ नाम॑ ॥
bháva dyumnī́ vādhri-aśva utá gopā́ḥ mā́ tvā tārīt abhí-mātiḥ jánānām ǀ
śū́raḥ-iva ghṛṣṇúḥ cyávanaḥ su-mitráḥ prá nú vocam vā́dhri-aśvasya nā́ma ǁ
Become full of light, O gelded Horse, and become our protector, let not the assault of men pierce thee; thou art like a hero, a violent overthrower and the good Friend: lo, I have uttered the names of the Fire of the gelded Horse.
10.69.6
सम॒ज्र्या॑ पर्व॒त्या॒३่ वसू॑नि॒ दासा॑ वृ॒त्राण्यार्या॑ जिगेथ ।
शूर॑ इव धृ॒ष्णुश्च्यव॑नो॒ जना॑नां॒ त्वम॑ग्ने पृतना॒यूँर॒भि ष्याः॑ ॥
sám ajryā́ parvatyā́ vásūni dā́sā vṛtrā́ṇi ā́ryā jigetha ǀ
śū́raḥ-iva ghṛṣṇúḥ cyávanaḥ jánānām tvám agne pṛtanā-yū́n abhí syāḥ ǁ
Thou hast conquered the riches of the plains and the riches of the mountain, the destroyer foemen, and the Aryan freemen: like a hero art thou, a violent overthrower of men, O Fire, mayst thou overcome those who battle against us.
10.69.7
दी॒र्घतं॑तुर्बृ॒हदु॑क्षा॒यम॒ग्निः स॒हस्र॑स्तरीः श॒तनी॑थ॒ ऋभ्वा॑ ।
द्यु॒मांद्यु॒मत्सु॒ नृभि॑र्मृ॒ज्यमा॑नः सुमि॒त्रेषु॑ दीदयो देव॒यत्सु॑ ॥
dīrghá-tantuḥ bṛhát-ukṣā ayám agníḥ sahásra-starīḥ śatá-nīthaḥ ṛ́bhvā ǀ
dyu-mā́n dyumát-su nṛ́-bhiḥ mṛjyámānaḥ su-mitréṣu dīdayaḥ devayát-su ǁ
This Fire is the long Thread, the vast Bull, one with a thousand layers and a hundred leadings, he is the Craftsman; luminous in men luminous, made bright by the hands of men, may he flame out in the strivers after godhead, in the friendly people1.
10.69.8
त्वे धे॒नुः सु॒दुघा॑ जातवेदोऽस॒श्चते॑व सम॒ना स॑ब॒र्धुक् ।
त्वं नृभि॒र्दक्षि॑णावद्भिरग्ने सुमि॒त्रेभि॑रिध्यसे देव॒यद्भिः॑ ॥
tvé␣íti dhenúḥ su-dúghā jāta-vedaḥ asaścátā-iva samanā́ sabaḥ-dhúk ǀ
tvám nṛ́-bhiḥ dákṣiṇāvat-bhiḥ agne su-mitrébhiḥ idhyase devayát-bhiḥ ǁ
In thee is the good milch-cow, O knower of all things born, as if unstayingly equal in its yield, giving its nectar-milk. O Fire, thou art set alight by men who have the intuitive judgment, strivers after godhead, the friendly people.
10.69.9
दे॒वाश्चि॑त्ते अ॒मृता॑ जातवेदो महि॒मानं॑ वाध्र्यश्व॒ प्र वो॑चन् ।
यत्सं॒पृच्छं॒ मानु॑षी॒र्विश॒ आयं॒त्वं नृभि॑रजय॒स्त्वावृ॑धेभिः ॥
devā́ḥ cit te amṛ́tāḥ jāta-vedaḥ mahimā́nam vādhri-aśva prá vocan ǀ
yát sam-pṛ́ccham mā́nuṣīḥ víśaḥ ā́yan tvám nṛ́-bhiḥ ajayaḥ tvā́-vṛdhebhiḥ ǁ
Even the immortal gods proclaim thy greatness, O knower of all things born, O Fire of the gelded Horse. That which I sought by questioning, coming to the human peoples, thou hast conquered by men who grow by thee2.
10.69.10
पि॒तेव॑ पु॒त्रम॑बिभरु॒पस्थे॒ त्वाम॑ग्ने वध्र्य॒श्वः स॑प॒र्यन् ।
जु॒षा॒णो अ॑स्य स॒मिधं॑ यविष्ठो॒त पूर्वाँ॑ अवनो॒र्व्राध॑तश्चित् ॥
pitā́-iva putrám abibhaḥ upá-sthe tvā́m agne vadhri-aśváḥ saparyán ǀ
juṣāṇáḥ asya sam-ídham yaviṣṭha utá pū́rvān avanoḥ vrā́dhataḥ cit ǁ
Thee, as the father carries his son in his lap so the gelded Horse carried and tended thee, O Fire; O youthful god, accepting his fuel thou didst conquer even the supreme and mighty.
10.69.11
शश्व॑द॒ग्निर्व॑ध्र्य॒श्वस्य॒ शत्रू॒न्नृभि॑र्जिगाय सु॒तसो॑मवद्भिः ।
सम॑नं चिददहश्चित्रभा॒नोऽव॒ व्राधं॑तमभिनद्वृ॒धश्चि॑त् ॥
śáśvat agníḥ vadhri-aśvásya śátrūn nṛ́-bhiḥ jigāya sutásomavat-bhiḥ ǀ
sámanam cit adahaḥ citrabhāno␣íti␣citra-bhāno áva vrā́dhantam abhinat vṛdháḥ cit ǁ
Fire has ever conquered the enemies of the gelded Horse by men who have pressed the Soma-wine; O thou of the bright diverse lights, thou hast broken and cast down the foe that was equal and the foe that was mighty and thou hast given him increase.
10.69.12
अ॒यम॒ग्निर्व॑ध्र्य॒श्वस्य॑ वृत्र॒हा स॑न॒कात्प्रेद्धो॒ नम॑सोपवा॒क्यः॑ ।
स नो॒ अजा॑मीँरु॒त वा॒ विजा॑मीन॒भि ति॑ष्ठ॒ शर्ध॑तो वाध्र्यश्व ॥
ayám agníḥ vadhri-aśvásya vṛtra-hā́ sanakā́t prá-iddhaḥ námasā upa-vākyáḥ ǀ
sáḥ naḥ ájāmīn utá vā ví-jāmīn abhí tiṣṭha śárdhataḥ vādhri-aśva ǁ
This Fire is the slayer of the enemies of the gelded Horse, lit from of old and to be invoked with obeisance; so do thou assail those who attack him, both the uncompanioned and the one with many companions, O Fire of the gelded Horse.
