Sukta 21
10.21.1
आग्निं न स्ववृ॑क्तिभि॒र्होता॑रं त्वा वृणीमहे ।
य॒ज्ञाय॑ स्ती॒र्णब॑र्हिषे॒ वि वो॒ मदे॑ शी॒रं पा॑व॒कशो॑चिषं॒ विव॑क्षसे ॥
ā́ agním ná svávṛkti-bhiḥ hótāram tvā vṛṇīmahe ǀ
yajñā́ya stīrṇá-barhiṣe ví vaḥ máde śīrám pāvaká-śociṣam vívakṣase ǁ
By our self-purifications we elect thee, the Fire as our Priest of the call, for the sacrifice where strewn is the grass, — in the intoxication of your rapture, — intense with thy purifying light of flame, — and thou growest to greatness.
10.21.2
त्वामु॒ ते स्वा॒भुवः॑ शुं॒भंत्यश्व॑राधसः ।
वेति॒ त्वामु॑प॒सेच॑नी॒ वि वो॒ मद॒ ऋजी॑तिरग्न॒ आहु॑ति॒र्विव॑क्षसे ॥
tvā́m ūṃ␣íti té su-ābhúvaḥ śumbhánti áśva-rādhasaḥ ǀ
véti tvā́m upa-sécanī ví vaḥ máde ṛ́jītiḥ agne ā́-hutiḥ vívakṣase ǁ
Those who have achieved possession of the Horse, are very close to thee and glorify thee; the ladle goes to thee, — in the intoxication of your rapture, — direct, carrying the oblation, O Fire, — and thou growest to greatness.
10.21.3
त्वे ध॒र्माण॑ आसते जु॒हूभिः॑ सिंच॒तीरि॑व ।
कृ॒ष्णा रू॒पाण्यर्जु॑ना॒ वि वो॒ मदे॒ विश्वा॒ अधि॒ श्रियो॑ धिषे॒ विव॑क्षसे ॥
tvé␣íti dharmā́ṇaḥ āsate juhū́bhiḥ siñcatī́ḥ-iva ǀ
kṛṣṇā́ rūpā́ṇi árjunā ví vaḥ máde víśvāḥ ádhi śríyaḥ dhiṣe vívakṣase ǁ
In thee the upholding laws reside; sprinkling out their contents as with ladle black forms and white — in the intoxication of your rapture — all glories thou holdest — and thou growest to greatness.
10.21.4
यम॑ग्ने॒ मन्य॑से र॒यिं सह॑सावन्नमर्त्य ।
तमा नो॒ वाज॑सातये॒ वि वो॒ मदे॑ य॒ज्ञेषु॑ चि॒त्रमा भ॑रा॒ विव॑क्षसे ॥
yám agne mányase rayím sáhasā-van amartya ǀ
tám ā́ naḥ vā́ja-sātaye ví vaḥ máde yajñéṣu citrám ā́ bhara vívakṣase ǁ
O forceful and immortal Fire, whatever wealth thou deemest fit, that for the winning of the plenitudes, — in the intoxication of your rapture, — bring to us a wealth of various lights in the sacrifices, — and thou growest to greatness.
10.21.5
अ॒ग्निर्जा॒तो अथ॑र्वणा वि॒दद्विश्वा॑नि॒ काव्या॑ ।
भुव॑द्दू॒तो वि॒वस्व॑तो॒ वि वो॒ मदे॑ प्रि॒यो य॒मस्य॒ काम्यो॒ विव॑क्षसे ॥
agníḥ jātáḥ átharvaṇā vidát víśvāni kā́vyā ǀ
bhúvat dūtáḥ vivásvataḥ ví vaḥ máde priyáḥ yamásya kā́myaḥ vívakṣase ǁ
The Fire born from Atharvan knows all seer-wisdoms, he becomes the messenger of the luminous sun, — in the intoxication of your rapture, — dear and desirable to the lord of the law, — and thou growest to greatness.
10.21.6
त्वां य॒ज्ञेष्वी॑ळ॒तेऽग्ने॑ प्रय॒त्य॑ध्व॒रे ।
त्वं वसू॑नि॒ काम्या॒ वि वो॒ मदे॒ विश्वा॑ दधासि दा॒शुषे॒ विव॑क्षसे ॥
tvā́m yajñéṣu īḷate ágne pra-yatí adhvaré ǀ
tvám vásūni kā́myā ví vaḥ máde víśvā dadhāsi dāśúṣe vívakṣase ǁ
Thee they pray in the sacrifices, O Fire, as the pilgrim-sacrifice goes on its way; all desirable treasures — in the intoxication of your rapture — thou foundest for the giver, and thou growest to greatness.
10.21.7
त्वां य॒ज्ञेष्वृ॒त्विजं॒ चारु॑मग्ने॒ नि षे॑दिरे ।
घृ॒तप्र॑तीकं॒ मनु॑षो॒ वि वो॒ मदे॑ शु॒क्रं चेति॑ष्ठम॒क्षभि॒र्विव॑क्षसे ॥
tvā́m yajñéṣu ṛtvíjam cā́rum agne ní sedire ǀ
ghṛtá-pratīkam mánuṣaḥ ví vaḥ máde śukrám cétiṣṭham akṣá-bhiḥ vívakṣase ǁ
Thee as the Priest of the rite in the sacrifices men have seated, O Fire, beautiful, luminous of front, — in the intoxication of your rapture, — bright and, with thy eyes, most conscious of knowledge, — and thou growest to greatness.
10.21.8
अग्ने॑ शु॒क्रेण॑ शो॒चिषो॒रु प्र॑थयसे बृ॒हत् ।
अ॒भि॒क्रंद॑न्वृषायसे॒ वि वो॒ मदे॒ गर्भं॑ दधासि जा॒मिषु॒ विव॑क्षसे ॥
ágne śukréṇa śocíṣā urú prathayase bṛhát ǀ
abhi-krándan vṛṣa-yase ví vaḥ máde gárbham dadhāsi jāmíṣu vívakṣase ǁ
O Fire, with thy bright light of flame thou spreadest the wide Vast, clamouring thou becomest the bull, — in the intoxication of your rapture, — and settest the child of the womb in the sisters, — and thou growest to greatness.
