Sukta 103
8.103.1
अद॑र्शि गातु॒वित्त॑मो॒ यस्मि॑न्व्र॒तान्या॑द॒धुः ।
उपो॒ षु जा॒तमार्य॑स्य॒ वर्ध॑नम॒ग्निं न॑क्षंत नो॒ गिरः॑ ॥
ádarśi gātuvít-tamaḥ yásmin vratā́ni ā-dadhúḥ ǀ
úpo␣íti sú jātám ā́ryasya várdhanam agním nakṣanta naḥ gíraḥ ǁ
He is seen, the great path-finder in whom they have founded the laws of our action; to the Fire well-born, increaser of the Aryan, go our words.
8.103.2
प्र दैवो॑दासो अ॒ग्निर्दे॒वाँ अच्छा॒ न म॒ज्मना॑ ।
अनु॑ मा॒तरं॑ पृथि॒वीं वि वा॑वृते त॒स्थौ नाक॑स्य॒ सान॑वि ॥
prá dáivaḥ-dāsaḥ agníḥ devā́n áccha ná majmánā ǀ
ánu mātáram pṛthivī́m ví vavṛte tastháu nā́kasya sā́navi ǁ
Fire lit by the Servant of Heaven travels in his might towards the gods along our mother earth and on heaven’s peak he takes his stand.
8.103.3
यस्मा॒द्रेजं॑त कृ॒ष्टय॑श्च॒र्कृत्या॑नि कृण्व॒तः ।
स॒ह॒स्र॒सां मे॒धसा॑ताविव॒ त्मना॒ग्निं धी॒भिः स॑पर्यत ॥
yásmāt réjanta kṛṣṭáyaḥ carkṛ́tyāni kṛṇvatáḥ ǀ
sahasra-sā́m medhásātau-iva tmánā agním dhībhíḥ saparyata ǁ
Fire because of whom men doing the works that have to be done, grow luminous, him conqueror of the thousands as if in the winning of the purities they serve by the self1, by their thoughts.
8.103.4
प्र यं रा॒ये निनी॑षसि॒ मर्तो॒ यस्ते॑ वसो॒ दाश॑त् ।
स वी॒रं ध॑त्ते अग्न उक्थशं॒सिनं॒ त्मना॑ सहस्रपो॒षिणं॑ ॥
prá yám rāyé nínīṣasi mártaḥ yáḥ te vaso␣íti dā́śat ǀ
sáḥ vīrám dhatte agne uktha-śaṃsínam tmánā sahasra-poṣíṇam ǁ
He whom thou willst to lead to the Riches, the mortal who gives to thee, O shining One, he holds in himself, O Fire, the hero, who utters the word, who increases the thousands.
8.103.5
स दृ॒ळ्हे चि॑द॒भि तृ॑णत्ति॒ वाज॒मर्व॑ता॒ स ध॑त्ते॒ अक्षि॑ति॒ श्रवः॑ ।
त्वे दे॑व॒त्रा सदा॑ पुरूवसो॒ विश्वा॑ वा॒मानि॑ धीमहि ॥
sáḥ dṛḷhé cit abhí tṛṇatti vā́jam árvatā sáḥ dhatte ákṣiti śrávaḥ ǀ
tvé␣íti deva-trā́ sádā puruvaso␣íti␣puru-vaso víśvā vāmā́ni dhīmahi ǁ
He rends open the plenitude even in the strong place by the war-horse, he founds an imperishable inspired knowledge; O thou of the many riches, in thee we ever hold in the godheads all beautiful things.
8.103.6
यो विश्वा॒ दय॑ते॒ वसु॒ होता॑ मं॒द्रो जना॑नां ।
मधो॒र्न पात्रा॑ प्रथ॒मान्य॑स्मै॒ प्र स्तोमा॑ यंत्य॒ग्नये॑ ॥
yáḥ víśvā dáyate vásu hótā mandráḥ jánānām ǀ
mádhoḥ ná pā́trā prathamā́ni asmai prá stómāḥ yanti agnáye ǁ
He who gives to us all treasures, men’s rapturous Priest of the call, to him our lauds go forth as if supreme vessels of the honey-wine.
8.103.7
अश्वं॒ न गी॒र्भी र॒थ्यं॑ सु॒दान॑वो मर्मृ॒ज्यंते॑ देव॒यवः॑ ।
उ॒भे तो॒के तन॑ये दस्म विश्पते॒ पर्षि॒ राधो॑ म॒घोनां॑ ॥
áśvam ná gīḥ-bhíḥ rathyám su-dā́navaḥ marmṛjyánte deva-yávaḥ ǀ
ubhé␣íti toké␣íti tánaye dasma viśpate párṣi rā́dhaḥ maghónām ǁ
The lavish givers, the seekers of the godhead, make him bright by their words as if currying a chariot-horse. O powerful for action, O lord of peoples, in the son of our begettings thou carriest achievement of the possessors of riches beyond both the firmaments.
8.103.8
प्र मंहि॑ष्ठाय गायत ऋ॒ताव्ने॑ बृह॒ते शु॒क्रशो॑चिषे ।
उप॑स्तुतासो अ॒ग्नये॑ ॥
prá máṃhiṣṭhāya gāyata ṛtá-vne bṛhaté śukrá-śociṣe ǀ
úpa-stutāsaḥ agnáye ǁ
Chant to the most bounteous, the possessor of the Truth, the brilliant in light, coming with the laud, to the Fire.
8.103.9
आ वं॑सते म॒घवा॑ वी॒रव॒द्यशः॒ समि॑द्धो द्यु॒म्न्याहु॑तः ।
कु॒विन्नो॑ अस्य सुम॒तिर्नवी॑य॒स्यच्छा॒ वाजे॑भिरा॒गम॑त् ॥
ā́ vaṃsate maghá-vā vīrá-vat yáśaḥ sám-iddhaḥ dyumnī́ ā́-hutaḥ ǀ
kuvít naḥ asya su-matíḥ návīyasī áccha vā́jebhiḥ ā-gámat ǁ
High-kindled, fed with the offering full of light, the lord of riches conquers a heroic glory; often may his new right-thinking come towards us with the plenitudes, —
8.103.10
प्रेष्ठ॑मु प्रि॒याणां॑ स्तु॒ह्या॑सा॒वाति॑थिं ।
अ॒ग्निं रथा॑नां॒ यमं॑ ॥
préṣṭham ūṃ␣íti priyā́ṇām stuhí āsāva átithim ǀ
agním ráthānām yámam ǁ
O thou who pressest the wine, laud the Fire, the guest most beloved of the beloved, the controller of the chariots, —
8.103.11
उदि॑ता॒ यो निदि॑ता॒ वेदि॑ता॒ वस्वा य॒ज्ञियो॑ व॒वर्त॑ति ।
दु॒ष्टरा॒ यस्य॑ प्रव॒णे नोर्मयो॑ धि॒या वाजं॒ सिषा॑सतः ॥
út-itā yáḥ ní-ditā véditā vásu ā́ yajñíyaḥ vavártati ǀ
dustárāḥ yásya pravaṇé ná ūrmáyaḥ dhiyā́ vā́jam sísāsataḥ ǁ
the master of sacrifice who turns towards us the hidden treasures now risen and known, he in whose downward descent is a rush as of waves hard to cross, when he conquers by the thought the plenitudes.
8.103.12
मा नो॑ हृणीता॒मति॑थि॒र्वसु॑र॒ग्निः पु॑रुप्रश॒स्त ए॒षः ।
यः सु॒होता॑ स्वध्व॒रः ॥
mā́ naḥ hṛṇītām átithiḥ vásuḥ agníḥ puru-praśastáḥ eṣáḥ ǀ
yáḥ su-hótā su-adhvaráḥ ǁ
May not Fire, the guest, the shining One widely proclaimed, be wroth with us; this is he who is the perfect Priest of the call perfect in the pilgrim-rite.
8.103.13
मो ते रि॑ष॒न्ये अच्छो॑क्तिभिर्व॒सोऽग्ने॒ केभि॑श्चि॒देवैः॑ ।
की॒रिश्चि॒द्धि त्वामीट्टे॑ दू॒त्या॑य रा॒तह॑व्यः स्वध्व॒रः ॥
mó␣íti té riṣan yé ácchokti-bhiḥ vaso␣íti ágne kébhiḥ cit évaiḥ ǀ
kīríḥ cit hí tvā́m ī́ṭṭe dūtyā́ya rātá-havyaḥ su-adhvaráḥ ǁ
May they not come to harm by any of their movements who approach thee with invocation, O Fire, O shining One; for the singer of the hymn2 who has given the offering and does well the pilgrim-rite demands of thee the office of the messenger.
8.103.14
आग्ने॑ याहि म॒रुत्स॑खा रु॒द्रेभिः॒ सोम॑पीतये ।
सोभ॑र्या॒ उप॑ सुष्टु॒तिं मा॒दय॑स्व॒ स्व॑र्णरे ॥
ā́ agne yāhi marút-sakhā rudrébhiḥ sóma-pītaye ǀ
sóbharyāḥ úpa su-stutím mādáyasva sváḥ-nare ǁ
Come, O Fire, with the Rudras, comrade of the life-gods, for the drinking of the Soma-wine, to the laud of Sobhari and take thy rapture in the godhead of the Sun-world.
