Vastness and Light pp 25-26

Opening remarks
The Vedic seers saw the Truth as a Vast, luminous consciousness, a limitless Existence beyond dualities of the mind and the ego. This is the next ascension that Aswapati undergoes.

A gap was rent
In the griffin forefront of the Night and Day
A gap was rent in the all-concealing vault;
The conscious ends of being went rolling back:
The landmarks of the little person fell,
The island ego joined its continent.

At first there comes a little opening in the hard lid of the intellect. The mind begins to open to a greater Light and the being widens into the cosmic consciousness. Our consciousness expands beyond the limited horizons of mortal awareness.

Life’s barriers opened
Overpassed was this world of rigid limiting forms:
Life’s barriers opened into the Unknown.

The self of Life also widens and we begin to become conscious of the play of forces that hide behind material forms. The essential oneness behind creation begins to reveal itself in marvelous ways.

Conception’s covenants
Abolished were conception’s covenants
And, striking off subjection’s rigorous clause,
Annulled the soul’s treaty with Nature’s nescience.

There is a whole reversal of consciousness, a revolutionary change, as our habitual understanding of life, our limited conceptions born of a limited experience begins to be replaced by a truer and deeper vision of things. With this comes freedom, and the soul previously subject to the laws of Nature begins to transcend beyond the limits imposed by Nature, and becomes her Master.

Mating of the finite and the infinite
All the grey inhibitions were torn off
And broken the intellect’s hard and lustrous lid;
Truth unpartitioned found immense sky-room;
An empyrean vision saw and knew;
The bounded mind became a boundless light,
The finite self mated with infinity.

The divisive and partial view of things, the greyness and uncertainty in mental knowledge begins to change into a total and luminous view. The doors of our finite mind opens to infinity, all our partial one-sided and partisan views change into a total and synthetic knowledge. We begin to see the truth behind every experience and each is put in its rightful place with regard to the whole.

Eagle’s flight
His march now soared into an eagle’s flight.

The bounded mind is freed from the boundaries of Ignorance. It soars higher, its vision grows deeper, it develops a wider and comprehensive look towards things.

The Dawn of a spiritual day
Out of apprenticeship to Ignorance
Wisdom upraised him to her master craft         (p 26 begins)
And made him an archmason of the soul,
A builder of the Immortal’s secret house,
An aspirant to supernal Timelessness:
Freedom and empire called to him from on high;
Above mind’s twilight and life’s star-led night
There gleamed the dawn of a spiritual day.

With this first change, the mind grows into freedom and vastness and light. Wisdom dawns and the soul wakes up to higher and deeper truths and their workings. We begin to become conscious collaborators in fulfilling the Divine scheme in creation.

Closing remarks
This is the first change, the first step towards the building of a deeper, higher and truer life within us.
