123 Prayers and Meditations of the Mother,
Translated or Revised by Sri Aurobindo.
The 123 prayers in this collection are translations of prayers that were originally written in French by the Mother. Twenty-five of these prayers were translated by Sri Aurobindo in whole or in part; the rest were translated by his disciples and then revised by him; in revising them, he not only corrected the translations for errors of language and grammar but recast them with a view to style. All bear the touch of his literary excellence.
Sixty-one of these prayers were first published in 1941 under the title Prayers and Meditations of the Mother; three more prayers were added by the Mother in 1962. These sixty-four prayers form the base of the present collection. The remaining fifty-nine prayers, translated by disciples and revised by Sri Aurobindo, bring the total number to 123. Fifty-eight are being published here for the first time. These 123 prayers comprise all of Sri Aurobindo’s known literary translations of the Mother’s prayers.
