At the Feet of The Mother

The Last Limit, p. 309. Closing Remarks for the Canto.

Opening Remarks
Aswapati has reached the last limit of the Vedantic experience.

Pure Existence
A pure existence safe from thought and mood,
A consciousness of unshared immortal bliss,
It dwelt aloof in its bare infinite,
One and unique, unutterably sole.

It is a pure Existence and a Consciousness of unshared immortal Bliss. It was a bare infinite, alone and one and unique, unutterably sole. It is what is known in the indian spiritual teachings as the Sacchidananda, sheer Existence-Consciousness-Bliss.

A formless Being
A Being formless, featureless and mute
That knew itself by its own timeless self,
Aware for ever in its motionless depths,
Uncreating, uncreated and unborn,
The One by whom all live, who lives by none,
An immeasurable luminous secrecy
Guarded by the veils of the Unmanifest,
Above the changing cosmic interlude
Abode supreme, immutably the same,
A silent Cause occult, impenetrable,—
Infinite, eternal, unthinkable, alone.

It is the formless, featureless Being who knows Itself by its own timeless self. It is aware forever in its own motionless depths as uncreating, uncreated and unborn. It is That by whom all live and who lives by none. It is an immeasurable luminous secrecy guarded by veils of the Unmanifest above the cosmic interlude. Here is the supreme Abode of the Supreme, ever the same. Here is the silent Cause of all things, occult and impenetrable; infinite, eternal, unthinkable, alone. Aswapati has reached the last limits, the Permanent, the Eternal, the ever Unchanging, the One sole Reality.

Closing Remarks
Sri Aurobindo as the Master-poet beautifully describes what is beyond all description. Thus he brings the One True and sole Existence who is one with Consciousness and Bliss, the Supreme formless Being near to us.

Closing Remarks for the Canto
This Canto describes the ultimate experience of the Vedantin. It is said that if one enters there then all lines of return are closed and one vanishes as in the sea a wave. But Aswapati waits upon Its threshold and returns but not before seeking the ultimate boon for earth and men.
