Sukta 122
10.122.1
वसुं॒ न चि॒त्रम॑हसं गृणीषे वा॒मं शेव॒मति॑थिमद्विषे॒ण्यं ।
स रा॑सते शु॒रुधो॑ वि॒श्वधा॑यसो॒ऽग्निर्होता॑ गृ॒हप॑तिः सु॒वीर्यं॑ ॥
vásum ná citrá-mahasam gṛṇīṣe vāmám śévam átithim adviṣeṇyám ǀ
sáḥ rāsate śurúdhaḥ viśvá-dhāyasaḥ agníḥ hótā gṛhá-patiḥ su-vī́ryam ǁ
I voice the Shining One with its richly varied lights1, the fair and happy, the guest in whom is nothing hostile; Fire, the Priest of the call, the master of the house gives the healing forces that sustain the world, he gives us the hero-energy.
10.122.2
जु॒षा॒णो अ॑ग्ने॒ प्रति॑ हर्य मे॒ वचो॒ विश्वा॑नि वि॒द्वान्व॒युना॑नि सुक्रतो ।
घृत॑निर्णि॒ग्ब्रह्म॑णे गा॒तुमेर॑य॒ तव॑ दे॒वा अ॑जनय॒न्ननु॑ व्र॒तं ॥
juṣāṇáḥ agne práti harya me vácaḥ víśvāni vidvā́n vayúnāni sukrato␣íti␣su-krato ǀ
ghṛ́ta-nirnik bráhmaṇe gātúm ā́ īraya táva devā́ḥ ajanayan ánu vratám ǁ
O Fire, take pleasure in my word, let thy joy respond to it, for thou knowest all discoveries of knowledge, O strong will! Robed in light, put out a path for the Word, the gods have begotten all according to thy law of works.
10.122.3
स॒प्त धामा॑नि परि॒यन्नम॑र्त्यो॒ दाश॑द्दा॒शुषे॑ सु॒कृते॑ मामहस्व ।
सु॒वीरे॑ण र॒यिणा॑ग्ने स्वा॒भुवा॒ यस्त॒ आन॑ट् स॒मिधा॒ तं जु॑षस्व ॥
saptá dhā́māni pari-yán ámartyaḥ dā́śat dāśúṣe su-kṛ́te mamahasva ǀ
su-vī́reṇa rayíṇā agne su-ābhúvā yáḥ te ā́naṭ sam-ídhā tám juṣasva ǁ
Encompassing the seven planes, O immortal, giving to the giver, to the doer of good deeds, grow great2; O Fire, with riches full of hero-strength crowding on him, accept the man who has come to thee with the fuel.
10.122.4
य॒ज्ञस्य॑ के॒तुं प्र॑थ॒मं पु॒रोहि॑तं ह॒विष्मं॑त ईळते स॒प्त वा॒जिनं॑ ।
शृ॒ण्वंत॑म॒ग्निं घृ॒तपृ॑ष्ठमु॒क्षणं॑ पृ॒णंतं॑ दे॒वं पृ॑ण॒ते सु॒वीर्यं॑ ॥
yajñásya ketúm prathamám puráḥ-hitam havíṣmantaḥ īḷate saptá vājínam ǀ
śṛṇvántam agním ghṛtá-pṛṣṭham ukṣáṇam pṛṇántam devám pṛṇaté su-vī́ryam ǁ
The seven givers of the offering pray the lord of plenitudes, the supreme Ray of intuition, the vicar of the sacrifice, Fire, the Bull with the luminous back who hears our words, the god who on him who satisfies him with gifts bestows fullness of heroic might.
10.122.5
त्वं दू॒तः प्र॑थ॒मो वरे॑ण्यः॒ स हू॒यमा॑नो अ॒मृता॑य मत्स्व ।
त्वां म॑र्जयन्म॒रुतो॑ दा॒शुषो॑ गृ॒हे त्वां स्तोमे॑भि॒र्भृग॑वो॒ वि रु॑रुचुः ॥
tvám dūtáḥ prathamáḥ váreṇyaḥ sáḥ hūyámānaḥ amṛ́tāya matsva ǀ
tvā́m marjayan marútaḥ dāśúṣaḥ gṛhé tvā́m stómebhiḥ bhṛ́gavaḥ ví rurucuḥ ǁ
Thou art the first and supreme messenger, as such when thou art called be rapturous for immortality: thee the life-powers make resplendent in the house of the giver, thee with their lauds the flame-seers made to shine out wide.
10.122.6
इषं॑ दु॒हन्त्सु॒दुघां॑ वि॒श्वधा॑यसं यज्ञ॒प्रिये॒ यज॑मानाय सुक्रतो ।
अग्ने॑ घृ॒तस्नु॒स्त्रिर्ऋ॒तानि॒ दीद्य॑द्व॒र्तिर्य॒ज्ञं प॑रि॒यन्त्सु॑क्रतूयसे ॥
íṣam duhán su-dúghām viśvá-dhāyasam yajña-príye yájamānāya sukrato␣íti␣su-krato ǀ
ágre ghṛtá-snuḥ tríḥ ṛtā́ni dī́dyat vartíḥ yajñám pari-yán sukratu-yase ǁ
In one to whom sacrifice is dear, for the giver of sacrifice, milking the force that is a good milch-cow, the force that founds all, O strong will, O Fire, thrice pouring light, illumining the Truths, circling round our house and our sacrifice thou puttest forth thy strength of will.
10.122.7
त्वामिद॒स्या उ॒षसो॒ व्यु॑ष्टिषु दू॒तं कृ॑ण्वा॒ना अ॑यजंत॒ मानु॑षाः ।
त्वां दे॒वा म॑ह॒याय्या॑य वावृधु॒राज्य॑मग्ने निमृ॒जंतो॑ अध्व॒रे ॥
tvā́m ít asyā́ḥ uṣásaḥ ví-uṣṭiṣu dūtám kṛṇvānā́ḥ ayajanta mā́nuṣāḥ ǀ
tvā́m devā́ḥ mahayā́yyāya vavṛdhuḥ ā́jyam agne ni-mṛjántaḥ adhvaré ǁ
Thee, O Fire, making their messenger men have offered sacrifice in the outshining of this dawn; thee the gods have increased for their growing to greatness making bright the oblation of light in the pilgrim-sacrifice.
10.122.8
नि त्वा॒ वसि॑ष्ठा अह्वंत वा॒जिनं॑ गृ॒णंतो॑ अग्ने वि॒दथे॑षु वे॒धसः॑ ।
रा॒यस्पोषं॒ यज॑मानेषु धारय यू॒यं पा॑त स्व॒स्तिभिः॒ सदा॑ नः ॥
ní tvā vásiṣṭhāḥ ahvanta vājínam gṛṇántaḥ agne vidátheṣu vedhásaḥ ǀ
rāyáḥ póṣam yájamāneṣu dhāraya yūyám pāta svastí-bhiḥ sádā naḥ ǁ
The Vasishthas called thee within them; full of plenitude, voicing the Fire, ordainers of works in the discoverings of knowledge; uphold the increasing of the riches in the doers of the sacrifice, do you ever guard us with all kinds of weal.
