I Cannot Join

We quote the following from Mr. Khare's letter to the Secretaries of the Dhulia Reception Committee giving his reasons for withdrawing from the Presidentship. “I see resolution No. IV adopted by them. This resolution calls upon the leaders of all the parties in the land to make a united effort to arrange the holding of the next Congress etc. Now having signed the creed I cannot join those who refuse to sign the creed (until at all events the creed is formally set aside) in arranging the holding of the National Congress etc.” The attitude of Mr. Khare is the attitude of the Bombay and Poona Moderates and Srijut Surendranath had a taste of it at Allahabad. Yet the Bengalee still talks smoothly of remaining in the Convention in order to secure a mandate for Dr. Rash Behari Ghose to resummon the adjourned Congress! But Srijut Surendranath was always a sanguine optimist.
