Kishoreganj (town) stands on both sides of the river Jamuneshwari, consists of three mouzas. It has an area of 4.13 sq km. The town has one dakbungalow. Administration Kishoreganj thana was established in 1921 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 11 union parishads, 70 mouzas and 72 villages. Its population 246201; male 51.20%, female 48.80%; Muslim 84.49%, Hindu 15.36% and others 0.15%; ethnic nationals: Santal 49 families.

Educational institution: college 2, high school 25, junior high school 6, madrasa 30, government primary school 93, non-government primary school 94. Noted educational institutions: Kishoreganj Multilateral High School (1939), Jaldhaka Model Government Primary School (1940). Main occupations Agriculture 50.54%, agricultural labourer 30.93%, commerce 7.87%, wage labourer 2.58%, service 2.46% and others 5.62%. Land use Total land under cultivation 17411.17 hectares; single crop 13.58%, double crop 21.29% and treble crop land 65.13%. Land control Among the peasants 48.28% are landless, 12.37% small, 25.05% intermediate and 14.3% rich; cultivable land per head 0.15 hectare. Main crops Paddy, wheat, potato, onion, garlic, brinjal, sweet potato, kaun, patal, ginger. Extinct and nearly extinct crops Linseed, sesame, arahar and mustard seed. Main fruits Jackfruit, mango, papaya, banana and litchi. Communication facilities Roads: pucca 35 km and mud road 661 km. Cottage industries Bamboo work 250, wood work 160, blacksmith 85, tailoring 290; cocoon produced by women labour. Hats, bazars and fairs Hats and bazars are 22, most noted of which are Kishoreganj, Tepa, Baravita, Magura and Paragram; fair 1 (Tatuar Mela). Main exports Paddy, potato, brinjal and ginger.
