The Mother’s final arrival in Pondicherry (24 April 1920)
The queues of devotees waiting to go to the first floor room where the Mother and Sri Aurobindo sat during the darshan ceremony. Cartier-Bresson had asked for permission to photograph the two of them giving darshan and, apparently at the last minute, he was allowed to do so. Rushing upstairs he took ten shots, only one of which turned out well (No 1).
