At the Feet of The Mother
Whilst Sri Aurobindo and the Mother were trying to lay the foundation for a new golden Age, mighty demons like Hitler and Stalin were turning the time backwards, frightening the world with their atrocities. The years to come were entirely dominated by the events of the Second World War. Sri Aurobindo put all his Force behind the Allies and especially Churchill.
Why are all sorts of things coming into me? Can nothing be done?

If you shake off your sense of helplessness and call down the Force or let it pass, then something can be done.

Sri Aurobindo and the Mother entered the war arena in their own way. Sri Aurobindo worked in the occult worlds, and his seat of tapasya was Pondicherry. The Mother travelled to war zones in France and Japan, and identifying with the body of the Earth she offered her own body in a holocaust to the Supreme so that the Earth may be saved.
A complex play of forces hidden to our sight supports this visible universe from behind. This complex play of forces is arranged hierarchically as a ladder. This ladder will be described in detail in Book Two.
If there is one lesson Ambu wanted me to learn, it is this: turn to the Divine and nowhere else. Do not run after money, power, sex, name and fame. Live for the Divine, live for the Mother, and all else will be given to you.
My friends wonder why I take so little food. But why should I eat much just to satisfy the body’s appetite?

Food is necessary for the maintenance of the body which is the instrument of the sadhana, so it must be taken in sufficient quantity for that. It is not to satisfy the appetite but for this purpose that you must take sufficient food.

April 24th, 1920 is the day of the Mother’s final arrival to Pondicherry. The Mother reveals that this day marks the tangible sign of a decisive victory over the adverse forces. Quite naturally a question arises about the nature of this victory. To understand the full import of this we have to go back into time, perhaps a few thousand years back.

SHE comes manifested in the outer fields of nature, closer to our limited external sight so that even our outer senses can behold the Glory and the Flame. What is needed now is to tend the flame, to nurture and nourish it. What is needed is to renounce our old ways of life and start living afresh as a new born child who must learn everything in a new way. What is needed is to expose all our nature to its light and heat until all is ready for Her transmuting touch.
Due to the sciatica-pain, it is difficult to sit on an ordinary chair. Could I be given an easy chair so that my body can rest while I follow the movement of the sadhana?

Mother does not believe much in an easy chair sadhana... What the Mother meant was that this meditating on an easy chair which is so common in the Ashram is a new thing to her and she finds it rather a tamasic habit.
