At the Feet of The Mother

Opening Remarks for the Canto Two

We have seen the birth of Savitri in the previous Canto. Though apparently human to an outward view it is different as seen through the seer vision of Aswapati. The earth is prepared specially for her coming. Even the body is not prepared in the ordinary way as new elements are brought forth into the play. She brings along with her a New Consciousness to embody and manifest upon earth.

In the second Canto we see the growth and development of the instrumental nature to receive and express the Higher Consciousness that Savitri has brought with her. At first we see her developing to the various diverse fields that human nature can ordinarily develop such as art and painting and music and poetry and sciences and mathematics and language and philosophy and ethics. It is a many-sided development so as to create a wide and supple personality best suited to receive the New Light. Next we see her going beyond the human and conversing with a deeper Nature with which she is one. New faculties and capacities begin to open up in her, a spirit of universality, a sense of secret unity and awareness of the occult commerce behind life.

As she develops she draws around her circles of people who are like aspects of herself or linked to her in different ways. They come to her to seek advice or simply out of love, as friends and comrades of the great earthly play. Some are even drawn to her with wonder and revolt. Others just bathe in her sweetness meant for all and feel the joy of her company. Still others, rare souls recognise in her the Godhead great and give themselves to her as flowers open to the sun. She on her behalf gave to all what they demanded and deserved.

Yet amidst all the faces drawn near her and loved none could she find her partner and mate who would walk with her on the great and tremendous mission for which she is born.

There is no harm in the vital taking part in the joy of the rest of the being; it is the participation of the vital that makes it dynamic and communicates it to the external nature.
