Gita 4: Karma and Jnana (TH 096)

What is the relation between knowledge and work? Generally we do works under the influence of nature and with ignorance. We do almost everything for our ego which binds us. Work done in this way does not liberate us. We have to understand this and try to do works in a way that would lead us towards knowledge and liberation. When work is done with knowledge, one does not do the work for one’s ego but for the joy of work impelled from within by the Divine Will. And slowly one is liberated from the bond of work. Then the work is done with no other motive than service of the Divine, for facilitating the evolutionary march of mankind (lokasangraharth). Still further the works may be done for the new possibility of transformation of the physical being.
