At the Feet of The Mother

For Man Thou Seekest, p. 488

Opening Remarks
Savitri now turns within in search of her soul. She becomes conscious of her work and mission.

Out of the busy hum
At first out of the busy hum of mind
As if from a loud thronged market into a cave
By an inward moment’s magic she had come.

The first step is to in fact to step back, inward away from the noise and clamour of the surface mind. By a kind of inward magical movement, it felt as if she had come out of a noisy, crowded market into a cave.

Hushed emptiness
A stark hushed emptiness became her self:
Her mind unvisited by the voice of thought
Stared at a void deep’s dumb infinity.

Her mind was hushed and empty, void of thoughts facing a deep dumb infinity.

Blank
Her heights receded, her depths behind her closed;
All fled away from her and left her blank.

Suddenly all frames seem to have gone leaving her in a blank state.

Her limiting field
But when she came back to her self of thought,
Once more she was a human thing on earth,
A lump of Matter, a house of closed sight,
A mind compelled to think out ignorance,
A life-force pressed into a camp of works
And the material world her limiting field.

But when she came back to her mental self, she was once more a human thing on earth. She was as if like other body made of matter, a house of clay with a limited vision, a mind of ignorance, a force of life directed towards limited works with the material world as her limited field.

Surface person
Amazed like one unknowing she sought her way
Out of the tangle of man’s ignorant past
That took the surface person for the soul.

As a seemingly ignorant person she sought her way out of the tangled and ignorant human past that mistook the surface person for the soul.

A Voice spoke
Then a Voice spoke that dwelt on secret heights:
“For man thou seekst, not for thyself alone.

Then a Voice spoke that dwelt on secret heights. The Voice said “It is not for yourself but for man that thou art seeking.

The dwarf with triple stride
Only if God assumes the human mind
And puts on mortal ignorance for his cloak
And makes himself the Dwarf with triple stride,
Can he help man to grow into the God.

Only if God becomes even as man assuming his ignorant mind striving through the three worlds of matter, mind and Beyond, can he help man to grow into the God.

Open the Immortal’s golden door
As man disguised the cosmic Greatness works
And finds the mystic inaccessible gate
And opens the Immortal’s golden door.

Man is God disguised in whom the cosmic Powers work and help him find the mystic inaccessible gate and open the Immortal golden gates of the higher solar worlds.

God’s human steps
Man, human, follows in God’s human steps.

When God becomes human the help given is more tangible and direct rather than hidden. Man then takes God’s own example and follows in his human steps.

Accepting his darkness and sorrow
Accepting his darkness thou must bring to him light,
Accepting his sorrow thou must bring to him bliss.

Accepting man’s darkness and sorrow, the Divine become human, the Avatar, must open the doors of light and bliss for man.

Heaven-born soul
In Matter’s body find thy heaven-born soul.”

The Voice sums up commanding Savitri to find her soul in a body built of unconscious Matter.

Closing Remarks
Thus Savitri receives the command to find the soul and open the doors and show the way to man.

Yoga means union with the Divine. In practice it implies coming in contact with and being established in higher and higher states of consciousness.  It is the means to grow in spiritual and eventually the Divine Consciousness.
Savitri faces death's doorstep with love for Satyavan, despite knowing his fate. Her union and deep solitude shaped her into the Divine Mother's embodiment, empowering her to confront death and fate with yogic power.
If I could get thus displeased in presence of the human weaknesses, I would certainly not be fit to do the work I am doing, and my coming upon earth would have no meaning.
