Doing the right effort in right direction means to try and do things, or better still think and feel and adopt certain attitudes that will take us closer to the goal.
There is no standard formula for that but an approach to life that often comes and grows with experience. If we look at life from this evolutionary perspective and of perpetual growth then we understand that there is no error in a certain sense but only a process of learning with error as the stumbling stride we take, in fact all take towards Truth. The difference is not in making errors but in giving up the effort, in stopping in some half way understanding. When we keep growing we realise that what we think as right and perfect today seems imperfect and incorrect tomorrow.
The thrust therefore should not be so much on a complete elimination of error which anyways is impossible in the state of our present ignorance but to keep the will to improve, progress, learn and unlearn and relearn a thousand times if needed, until one has grown sincere and wiser and humbler. And for those who sincerely seek to thus grow will invariably find the Divine Help needed to take us nearer the goal turning errors into steps towards the Light of Truth.
So it has been said, wisely and beautifully, to do according to what seems best and right at a given moment with whatever reflection and discernment is at one’s disposal but do not forget to offer it to the Divine with a will for purification and progress. All the rest will follow in due course of time.
Affectionately
