Mother Divine, Maa, out of all the addictions that tie man’s life to dense ignorance, chasing money seems to be the strongest, if not the worst. Once caught in its net, all the energies of man seem to be directed towards it, all his life seems to be centred around it, all his relationships seem to revolve around it and all his thoughts and efforts seem to turn around it. It is like a black hole, for the more one gets, the more one wants and covets. It is so rare and difficult to find a truly generous heart among the rich and, when one compares proportionately, those who do not earn much often seem to be more spontaneously generous. It is one thing to earn money, even good amount of money because it is the natural mode of one’s life but quite another to chase money, to build our life around it, to hunger after it, to let it influence our choices as if it were the lord. Even in giving there is so much self-seeking ostentatiousness. Whereas in truth all wealth, and the ability and circumstances to earn it is, as with all things, a gift of Thy Grace and should be best used in Thy Service. That is why perhaps when one finds generosity in a rich man it is something that is truly worth admiring. It is the sign of conversion when a rich man begins to use the wealth he has been given in beautiful ways. It would make the world so much better.
Maa, when one sees a whole civilisation centered around money and the pleasures and comforts it can buy, one wonders how we call darkness as Light and downfall as progress! But such is the deception that money creates.
Oh Mother, save us from this disease of money-mania! May all the riches and wealth of the world and the means it provides be placed at Thy Service to make this world a better place, a world beautiful, harmonious, divine both within and outside.
