Mother Divine, Maa, seen from one side, the sense of loss that humanity experiences at the departure of someone we cherish is like the sentiment of a child who weeps at his favorite toy, the source of one’s joy, being taken away. We suffer, not because of the departed in whose name we cry but because of ourselves. The loss is ours, not of the departed who has moved on. The soul of man is always moving forwards through the steps and stages of life. Each is on his own independent unique journey and our meetings and partings are like travellers who share some distance together as ordained by fate. Each disembarks when his time arrives to rest for a while and take the next vehicle and proceed upon the road of experiences marked out for him by the supreme Wisdom. The togetherness was not meant to be permanent for bodies and minds and even the personalities of one life are not permanent.
Maa, but seen from another side isn’t this human affection, the wish and hope of love that stays forever a mistranslation in earthly terms of a profound truth, the aspiration for immortality and permanence even here, upon earth, in material forms. Yes there is a long, very long way to go before such divine forms could manifest in terms and conditions of earthly life, where presently, Death walks freely with his sickle to pluck the flowers and the thorns which he offers to the Lord. Perhaps a day would come when he shall be released from this dark work and, abandoning his mask of terror, be transformed into an angel of life.
Maa, may the day arrive when we do not have to die to the body for becoming alive to the soul. Maa, may the body and the soul fulfil each other and mirror the light and delight of the Lord. May our body be free even as our soul.
