There are four Asuras that are the shadows of the fourfold Divine. Sat or true Existence becomes Asat or Falsehood. The action of Falsehood twists everything. It distorts or, in its worst form imitates Truth.
Chit or Consciousness becomes Unconsciousness. It throws a cover over Truth. Its action is to make us unconscious of the true things and thereby allowing Falsehood to enter and become prominently highlighted.
Tapas or Force becomes Tamas, a state of utter darkness and inertia. It turns the manifold force of life into Death. Its action is to maim and restrict and destroy the power of life in creation.
Ananda becomes Suffering. Its action is to limit us and degrade the spontaneous delight of existence into pleasure, pain and indifference.
Yes the Mother had gathered these four Asuras around Her or we may say that they always surrounded Her because they knew here is the ultimate Power that can either supremely empower them (this is what they get drawn to) or else redeem and convert restoring them to their original truth. They could also be dissolved back into their origin.
Of course it is very easy for the Divine to destroy them, not only the human and other forms they incarnate in (as we see in the stories of Avatars) but the destruction of their human instruments and representatives is only a temporary respite. Sooner or later they pick up other instruments and continue their destructive work. The permanent remedy lies only in their dissolution at the roots or else their conversion and entering the further evolutionary curve. The problem with dissolution is that it would mean the dissolution of much life, including a large majority of humanity that thrives on and has become unwittingly its dark instrument. Conversion of the Asura is a better option as it provides an opportunity for the Asuric elements in creation to become instruments of the Divine enriched by the experience of revolt and darkness.
Two out of the four, were already converted, the Asura of Suffering and Unconsciousness. Death has been dissolved in principle though its emanations are at work and many human beings harbour them. However it should not take mankind long (by cosmic standards) to discover pathways to immortality and freedom from ignorance of all kinds. Falsehood has agreed to be dissolved in principle but not before creating as much havoc as it can because human beings, especially the political and financial world, and one may add the world of outdated religion and twisted atheistic ideologies respond to it easily. That is what we are witnessing now.
