It is history repeating itself but with a twist. The rise of Hindu nationalism took place following the partition of Bengal along communal lines. We see something of this tendency springing up again and its inevitable consequence would be unity among the Hindus, lack of which has always been the Achilles heel of this civilisation. The spirit of wideness, tolerance and acceptance has percolated so deep into the psyche that the sense of the enemy within as well as threats from outside has become too blurred and hazy. A disconnectedness with the ground realities of earthly life has led to complacency whereas the multiplication of sects has created a sense of disunity and selfishness.
These attacks bring out our weaknesses to light, especially the vulnerability of the border states, the factionalism and self-seeking political interests. Let us hope that the lessons will be learnt and the Hindus rediscover their true soul, the original Sanatan Dharma and unite for the good of the world. I believe all that is happening is meant to and will eventually push us in that direction.
