The law of karma does not apply to animals nor to the gods. It seems to be applicable mainly, if not exclusively to the human lot. We carry the burden of karma and hence of fate upon our heads because, unlike the animals that act instinctively and the gods who act intuitively, we act with the sense of doership. This sense of doership develops as the mind and the mental ego develops. It leaves as we become aware that we are merely channels of the One Power that acts in the whole creation.
