We can put it that way. Depression is a state of acute egoism wherein the consciousness gets extremely narrowed down into a little hole where we are totally concentrated around our little self. In such a state we are unable to comprehend the vastness, the beauty and the sap of love and joy that throbs through life. It is not so much a lack of love but an inability to feel it.
The remedy therefore is to grow vast and to give rather than want love. It is wants that make us small and narrow. By getting rid of wants and desires that condition and limit the natural state of happiness we grow into vastness and peace. By giving love, be it a plant or a pet, a human being or an ideal we start stepping out from the prison of the ego. By turning our love to the Divine we open the floodgates of the secret springs of love within us. And wherever there is love there is bound to come beatitude and bliss.
