At the Feet of The Mother

In a talk you said that marriage is an institution – what this means?

An institution is an organisation that is meant to serve a certain Social, Religious, Ideological, Educational purpose. Marriage is more of a social and religious institution whose purpose is / was to maintain a kind of social order and to regulate certain elements and aspects of human nature such as the sexual impulse and attraction towards the other gender. By giving it a certain institutional form it becomes binding upon the individuals to observe its principles and rules. Thus, it preserves the society and the traditions thereby preventing it from disintegration. Evidently it served a certain purpose when there was a need for each social group to preserve its unique way of living.

However, it limited individual growth and thereby obstructed future progress and new possibilities that nature throws up in the course of evolution. Hence when nature is in a mood to create something new, something higher and wider it throws up individuals who driven by the spirit of destruction revolt and break down the old forms. Naturally it is a period of confusion when old forms are being pulled apart but the new is not yet in sight. Once the breakdown is near completion, a work largely undertaken by the asuric forces, the gods begin to labour to build new and better forms, more plastic and supple and wider to accommodate the growing evolutionary impulsion of the soul.

Now marriage, like many other religious, educational, ideological and social institutions has outlived its purpose. Hence all over these institutions are breaking down. But because humanity is not yet aware of the New Creation that should replace it, there is a period of confusion which though disconcerting to many is yet the first step towards discovering new and truer and more beautiful ways and higher purposes of a man-woman relationship, based on the truth of love and complimentary togetherness, mutually enriching union of heart and mind and soul towards a higher life rather than merely for preserving old social order based on child birth and regulation of biological and sexual needs.
