As you can see in many letters of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, any work dedicated to the Mother with sincerity and trust becomes Her Work. She takes it up and uses it for the needed change in our nature and for the growth of the soul within.
We may say that in work there is a hierarchy of progress.
There is work for the Mother, wherein we can dedicate any work to Her by inwardly offering it and doing it as if for Her and not for any outer result.
Then there is work of the Mother wherein the Divine gives us certain specific works as part of the Divine Works in the world.
Finally there is work by the Mother wherein works are done only by Her inner impulsion and become a natural flow from Her.
For example, when Arjuna fights, he is doing the work given by Krishna. It is work of the Divine that he does. But when Karna fights it is not the case. However if Karna offers his work to the Divine and then fights then he engages in work for the Divine.
Therefore whatever work you may be doing at present can be turned into the Mother’s work by dedicating it to Her.
If the time comes to be engaged directly in some work given by Her, then surely one day She will create or prepare the circumstances for this.
Preparation is another thing. It means to practice equanimity, to do the works without an eye on the result, which is niskama karma, etc.
