At the Feet of The Mother

I read that followers of this yoga replace the work of the gods? That sounds overwhelming and dangerous.

Man was always meant to go beyond the gods. In every age there have been beings who could do so and arrive at an inner union with the Divine Presence that holds all the great gods within Himself.

The Mother’s message of 21st February 1957 is quite significant in this regard:
‘In the eternity of becoming each Avatar is only the announcer, the forerunner of a more perfect realisation. And yet men have always the tendency to deify the Avatar of the past in opposition to the Avatar of the future. Now again Sri Aurobindo has come announcing to the world the realisation of tomorrow; and again his message meets with the same opposition as of all those who preceded him. But tomorrow will prove the truth of what he revealed and his work will be done.’

Jesus Christ himself went beyond the gods. So did the Buddha, Krishna and Sri Aurobindo. They belong to the line of great descents of the Divine in flesh and blood, known in India as Avatars. They come to help earth and humanity take one step forward in the eternity of becoming. Each Avatar represents the angst of the Age and its highest aspiration at that point of Time. He shows the way through a personal example and becomes the way by embodying the next level of consciousness intended.
As to the gods, they are powers and aspects of the One Divine. Each is fixed to his type and function. Man is first to pass under their working, then shaped by these gods becomes ready to assist them in their functioning. Finally, he passes beyond the gods to manifest the Divine Himself without any distortion. The gods, even though great, do not manifest the Divine Perfection because each brings out one or another quality of the Divine. They prepare earth and humanity by awakening these divine qualities little by little until mankind is ready to realise the intended Divine Perfection that takes him beyond the domain of the gods, not just the inner realisation but in outer life as well.

Humility automatically comes and grows as we draw nearer to God. Ego is the sign of moving further away and naturally it brings all kinds of disturbances. Its danger is always there but the safeguard again is surrender, no more to personal god or gods but to the Divine himself.
