Why not? It will be a relationship of mutual help and complimentarity in the Work itself or a support of each other in the journey. Of course, it is not mandatory but neither is it a taboo.
The greatest example of relationship of the highest Divine type is of the greatest Masters Sri Ramkrishna and Sarada devi, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother.
While these highest possibilities should not be used as a justification for one’s insincerities but the possibility is not only there but has been realised. There are several other examples in the Ashram context itself.
