Book Four: The Book of Birth and Quest

Book Four is about the birth of Savitri transiting through adolescence towards the fullness of youth.

Thus Savitri journeyed through cities and hamlets, mountains and plains through days and nights, witnessing the change of places and seasons in the course of her travel.

Savitri continues to journey in search of her ideal partner and mate.

An extreme form of spirituality takes the recourse to vanishing completely and for good into the Ineffable Mystery.

Another line of spiritual advance is the seer and the sage. This is what is revealed to us now.

These remote inaccessible spots upon earth are often used by ascetics so as to escape the corrupting influence of human life.

These spaces of earth are conducive to relieve us of the tensions that man incurs through his journey of life.

The Earth is a living entity, a goddess who has offered to be the field of a great unfolding of the Divine through forms and symbols.

Savitri ventures further to spaces not yet inhabited by human beings led by her inner light, guided by her soul.

There is inbuilt in life a Guidance though our mind is not aware of it and hence leads us into devious ways.

It is not just the journey to find her partner but the journey to her own greater fate towards which Savitri is traveling. Sri Aurobindo reveals here a little bit of the workings of Fate.

Savitri starts her journey and encounters the different forms of worldly life and efforts that mankind is engaged in.

In this Canto we witness various lines of yoga through which humanity has advanced so far in its pursuit of Truth.
