Death offers Savitri boons that could make her earthly life comfortable and happy but refuses to yield Satyavan. Savitri reminds Death that she is conscious of her soul and hence does not come to him as a supplicant to his throne.

Savitri demands from Death the dreams of Satyavan that die along with him. He grants her the boon of fulfilment of Satyavan’s dreams but without Satyavan.

Death once again counters Savitri with arguments of Nothingness as the ultimate Reality. Savitri answers him by revealing the profound oneness one finds through Love.

Savitri is born to sow the seeds of Light in the fields of Night. She penetrates the strong rigid defenses of the Night and enters the dark realm where Love and Light and Hope are not allowed to come.

A mystery lurks in the heart of Night. In its core there is a hidden Light, in its unconsciousness there is an imprisoned Consciousness that seeks release.

There is a state which can be likened to the birth of the gods. The gods who bear the Light from the vasts lean towards earth and are born in man as an ideal illumined mentality. They bring a fresh strength and renewed hope and joy.

The heavens of Religions are partly human made. Drawing from the energies of the gods, the human mind constructs for itself happier states.

Death now disdains love. It looks upon it with scorn and suspicion. Love is, for Death, an abnormality and an aberration. It is an ideal painted by human imagination with nothing substantial in it, says Death.

Death now reveals to Savitri the tragedy of human love, its imperfection and impossibility of change. Love cannot survive beyond a brief moment of time. It is born with the bodily lust and dies with it. Or else it drags and lingers together for a while until the body drops off and love too dies.

Death tries to dissuade Savitri from establishing an ideal way of life upon earth. He tries to disillusion her showing the futility of all past efforts to create something beautiful upon earth.

Savitri reveals the greater Truth, the Truth of Love that descends into creation to save it from the clutch of Ignorance and Death.

Sri Aurobindo now reveals to us the truth behind man-woman relationship, their mutual attraction, which is the truth of Purusha and Prakriti, Soul and Nature, reflected in our ignorance.

Death takes the position of the stark materialist who refuses to see what escapes the senses. He admits only what he can outwardly experience through the senses and declares all else as an imagination or a hallucination. He refuses to admit the soul, taking it to be just a figment of mental conception.

The atheist takes this world as it is and draws his philosophy out of his limited and partial field of observation. He does not feel any urge to go deeper or further. All this is a mechanical movement of an Inconscient nature, going on in a clockwork manner without any sense or purpose, driven by the blind engines of random chance.

Death now speaks of a sad and harsh philosophy, the so-called realism that drives us towards some dark end of nothingness. It is a perverted truth that carries its own appeal to a type of human mentality. Here we see Death picking up truths and giving it just a little twist here and there to turn it into falsehood.

Creation is an adventure of Consciousness. Savitri now reveals the truths that Death cannot see since it is hidden from his sight. She reveals to Death the great becoming starting from matter and reaching man through the plant and beast. It seeks to go beyond Man.

Savitri now reveals to Death the inner truth of evolution. It is in fact a progressive manifestation of the Divine hidden in matter. Starting from dumb material nature He builds the brain and thought for His dwelling.
