Essays on Yoga

Essays and Letters by Dr Alok Pandey on Yoga

A five-part article by Dr Alok Pandey (TEXT)
There is a tendency to think that people who take to spiritual life become incapacitated for dealing with real life issues. Nothing can be farther from truth. This misconception is based on a wrong understanding of true spirituality and a wrong understanding of life as well.
The worship of Rama, Sita, Krishna, Radha, Christ, Buddha, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother is not just some kind of demonstrative act of devotion. It is a recognition that here are some lives that man can emulate. It is a recognition of divinity within the reach of man.
...what is important is to know what truly helped them to become what they became, regardless of defects or their absence. It was this understanding that led to the deification of certain great and luminous beings in the eyes of humanity.
In the single persona and figure of Rama we see a perfect symbol of the high and noble Aryan type, the heroic humanity that shrinks not from any battle whether it be inner or outer. But his battles are never for the ostentatious expansion of ambition but for the expansion of dharma.
The epics reveal to us the road that man must take in his evolutionary journey. It is conjured in that one word, dharma which has fascinated the Indian mind since the Aryan forefathers moved through the mountains and plains and rivers flowing through the subcontinent we know today as India.
TEXT IN ENGLISH
... each species must follow its own law of evolution. While evolution in animals is largely an unconscious process driven by instincts, the law of man is to choose and grow conscious.
... whatever be the place we occupy or the work given to us, let us do it with the spirit of service and dedication to the Divine, with the trust that all will be well and with a prayer for the good of all mankind. That things will change for the better is inevitable. It is embedded in the logic of creation.
An essay (TEXT)
... wherever one may, even far far away on the other side of the earth one can come in active contact with the Mother since Her Presence is everywhere.
